I’ve not loaded steel shot.But I’ve loaded lead with steel wads .And by fine tuning I can get very tight patterns with 1/2 choke.I use LBC wads just use 2 slits about 1/2 way down.Never tried it in a open barrel .I had a barrel jug choked and would only work with fiber wads.

When I first started reloading all empty cases were paper.Sometimes in my bag a bit of shot would leak out and I would get a blooper?Then l started to paint the ends with Banana oil .problem solved.Same with plastic if you’ve not got a good tight crimp shot will leak out and cause a blooper.

Think it was training the rough shooters dog ,also did one called?gundog training and field trials.You should pick them up cheap.

There’s something on U tube about shooting steel at wildfowl in 1980.Tom Roster made the film..He’s shooting some very tall birds.. Steel seemed to work for him.
