  1. Fair comments, I can only vouch for them out to 25 metres. I used them in a similar situation to the OP. 22LR is my favourite calibre by far for various reasons and I can buy anything that's out there, even a 50BMG.
  2. Pretty standard size birds. I'd be cautious of over-cooking. Very easy for it to turn out like a lump of leather. It's a fine line!
  3. I've been doing this with skin-on mallard breasts and it's amazing. Very simple and end product is like good steak. Score skin Heavily season with salt and pepper Fry in pan with butter for 1 minute each side Place in oven skin side down for 8 minutes at 200C Rest for 5 minutes Cut across grain and serve
  4. People over there eat them as well. Same with the errant pythons. Not my thing, but whatever floats your boat.
  5. Food of the gods! I get enough goat meat, so that could be my next endeavour!
  6. Sadly, this is correct and if China is the enemy of the western world, we have helped to make them powerful.
  7. The lifestyle change that got rid of my gastric reflux was losing weight and sadly, that's the hardest thing to do. I've also pretty much had to give up on whisky re: oesophagitis. From a diet point of view, pastries were the worst for me. Getting old sucks!
  8. I have 4 jigging rods. It's embarrassing to write that down! Each is suited to a particular style of jigging and weight of jig.
  9. I find that fishing rods breed 😀 Spot on. My own repertoire runs from trout to marlin with a variety of different styles, mainly lure fishing, plus my boy has a few rods, so they soon mount up!
  10. I keep made-up rods on hooks on the wall. Note, these are all rods for boat fishing, so I'm guessing shorter than you use, but would work just as well for longer two piece rods. For rods in bags/tubes, I stick them in a 20L bucket. Not the most elegant solution, but it works and is space efficient.
  11. Ghillie suits work if you can stay still.

    WRWC 2022

I'm pretty removed from all of this, so probably not the best person to ask. Funnily enough, we were talking about the tournament earlier today. Quite a few games are being played in our nearest large town (Whangarei). My wife bumped in to the Canadian team yesterday. God knows what they thought of an ugly, New Zealand provincial service town, but they are from Canada, so maybe they're used to that kind of thing! Anyway, Mrs Houseplant got all excited about it and booked 5 tickets for the quarter finals for herself and some friends. Tickets were only $10 (GBP5) each! For my own part, very sorry to be a party pooper, but not really interested. I'll be fishing.
  13. I think about this kind of stuff quite a lot. I don't enjoy killing anything, this has become more pronounced as I get older. However, I do enjoy hunting and eating the meat I have harvested. I don't shoot anything I'm not going to eat. If someone is looking for a pest controller, they can ask someone else. It's got to the point where I don't even want to take part in catch and release fishing. It just seems cruel and unnecessary to me now, but I don't judge others for what they do.
  14. It annoys me too, along with about 10000000 other things like kids with made up names. I thought it was an NZ/Australasian phrase, but obviously the decline of English is worldwide.
  15. That's where I'm at. I keep watching to see how bad it can get. I may be alone in this thought, but Morfydd Clark isn't a bad actor, it's the script writers and director that are at fault, she is just following orders as they say. The Critical Drinker video was spot on.
  16. This seems to have stirred up social media all over the world!
  17. Part of the Hong Kong handover ceremony?
  18. I use dubbin on the tongue of my leather boots because it stops them squeaking. Very annoying when deer stalking!
  19. In my opinion and it is only that, GOT was the best TV show ever made... until season 6 then it started to drop off. Season 8 was a disaster. HOTD is OK, but it's such a slow burner. Usually a good thing, but it is very slow. Daemon is just too likeable as a bad guy. The actress swaps were well cast, but a bit disconcerting and a shame as the actress that played young Rhaenyra was very good. I'll keep watching, but it's disappointing. The Rings of Power on the other hand... Well, what an absolute pile of steaming woke, ill thought out ****!

    Houseboat

I'd want a mooring that would require scumbags to swim to the boat!
  21. I saw the headline on Al Jazeera, glanced over it thinking it was India, then saw it was Leicester. ***!?
