Lack of pub culture has probably had a massive effect on the young too. In days gone by it was the guidance of the older generations that "taught" the next in line how to behave. No guidance these days and seems like nobody knows right from wrong. I don't think it's a good thing at all.

Always puzzles me too. It doesn't matter who is right or wrong, it matters who is going to come worse off. The complete lack of self preservation in so many people these days startles me and I don't only mean cyclists. Joggers in dark clothing on country lanes in the rain with no footpath. Joggers that will not move out of the way when you approach in a car when there is no reason not to. What are they thinking? As a child I was always told to keep out of the way of cars, that seems to have been replaced with "you have equal rights on the road and you should stand in the way of the car that might kill you in order to exercise and demonstrate those rights". Live and let live but don't be a door handle.

At my last house the only heating was log burners and for 40 years the chimneys were never swept nor ever needed to. Never had a chimney fire either. Only burned well seasoned wood, probably 90% of that was leylandii. I wouldn't recommend not sweeping but I would suggest dry logs are a very big help to both clean chimney and warm house.

I often hear that quoted but not convinced it is true. I will accept that if they can prove your house just burnt down because you failed to have your chimney cleaned you are going to have a problem. The quote suggests they won't pay out on a burglary if your chimney hasn't been swept. Or am I just being a widgey.

Had one myself today for the first time in 12 months or so. I'm fairly stressed at the mo so probably related to that. Fortunately didn't get the headache, just the sparkly eyes. Bright or flashing lights definitely set me off but don't think it was that today. Migraleve used to be fantastic but no longer available for some reason. Codeine and paracetamol has sorted me in the past. Today I took a pink tablet out of the cupboard but don't really know what it was.

At my last place the meter was nearly a mile away in a straight line and more like 5 miles via roads. At this place my meter is up the road a bit but doesn't go round anyway.

It puzzles me why people find the death and destruction of other peoples lives a good topic for entertainment. His crimes were horrific and here you are saying how good it is to watch such stuff on telly, each to their own but definitely not for me. The made up stuff in soap operas is bad enough never mind real life misery.

I agree but in this case he wasn't rescued. If I decided to go off for a few days I wouldn't want folk mithering about where I was so I can understand him as far as that goes. Maybe he was fed up and needed to get away for a bit. Sorry, just read the story properly. Seems a fuss over nowt to me.

I have never figured out how severe the crime had to be before "Copper Dodd" increased the severity of his punishment beyond the threat of "if I catch you doing that again you will get my foot up your backside".

Mum and her sisters often went on train rides unaccompanied from Chester to Cornwall in the 1950's at age 11 or so. In the 70's I would be out on my bike aged 10 and be in the next village 5+ miles away and my parents would have no idea where I was, often as not I'd be back before being missed. Summertime was picking strawberries all morning on piecework then off to the shop in the village that had a whole board of various penknives which we would buy without question aged 7 or 8. It was normal and the penknives were classed as toys. It really saddens me that knives are so demonised these days as to me they are a symbol of a happy childhood. Aged 10 I had an Opinel and two flick knives from France, Dad bought them when we were on holiday over there. Had a massive Swiss Army knife for my 11th birthday (still got it) and BSA Mercury for Christmas the same year then a .410 to go with it. Rarely had enough money to buy carts for the .410 though. Had various sheath knives, Nazi daggers and British bayonets at about the same time, still quite a few knocking about from the war. Only cost a few quid and plenty advertised in Exchange and Mart (remember that :D) All of this was considered completely normal

It is a hysterical disproportionate reaction to actual events.

A brilliant example of this madness was someone reported on the local FB group that a red van had been spotted in the village. No other details whatsover, just a red van. Could just as easily have been the postman. Later when asked for more details it turned out the poster hadn't actually seen a red van but was just passing on a message she had been given. Bonkers in the extreme!

***! The world seems to have gone nuts over this. The suspects names, criminal record, court appearance notes, facebook accounts, registration numbers, photos and even where they are parked up is all over FB. If they really are guilty of the crimes they are accused of they won't take a lot of finding, especially as there are hourly updates of their whereabouts. It is hysteria, folk are wetting themselves because zip ties are found on lamp posts and they are secret signs for dognappers. A woman I know foiled them this morning by removing all the zip ties in the village. Zip ties on lamp posts are a really bad secret sign, nearly every junction has them. Used to hold missing cat posters, wasp nest adverts, etc etc but apparently once the poster has rotted off and blown away they become secret signs for dognappers. At least people are keeping their dogs on leads for a change, apart from next door whose dog has been reported found on FB 5 miles away yet again. They leave the dog to roam free and are then "distraught" when it goes missing (on a more than weekly basis).

Mine are in pallet size bulk bins with lids on. Stood outside and no issues with mouldy grain.

Yes it would, especially if there is fuel there too. Regularly used in bomb making by terrorists over the years. Also a big problem with transporting it, quite a few trucks blow up in aus from it iirc.

Very difficult if not impossible to cure at this stage, the damage is already done. One of those moth traps as above should help next year. For gardens they use them to control the moths, in big plantations they count the moths caught daily and when a certain number is reached they spray the whole field.
