  1. Very very good long shots when they are not decoying what a great bag. My long shots for pigeons would have to be Bristol to Birmingham there are so few down here
  2. A well deserved bag and happy farmer. Carrying the kit uphill sitting in the rain and slow shooting shows perseverance well done guys.
  3. A very nice bag indeed Dont think much of the hide but it clearly worked!
  4. Pointing out the inevitable. Still optimistic despite early losses from trying to predict the market, but now having reversed these early this week its not so bad so far. Every cloud has an opportunity to make a margin
  5. lol. Thx for link Tightchoke. Interesting reading lets hope they follow the UK lead
  6. Your right lots to think about Scared? Where has that come from?
  7. Out last night with my mentor Bumpy 22. Arrived at freshly cut barley stubble that I had been shooting crows on over the last few days. Stacking all of the shot birds in the hedge I was hoping the bate would work. Arrived at the farm about 2030 for a chat to the farmer and let my mentor get a sight of the ground. Sat in the truck for around 20 mins. Gun is in slip on back seat, bino's at home together with electronic caller (we wont need them). I am a little concerned that not a lot is happening. 'Shouldn't we get the gun out?' I need a plan!! Patience is not my strong point but after weighing up the options and seeing its not going to be dark for a while yet we set off to another farm to have a look with a view to coming back later. Arrived at the other farm to spot a good sized trophy Roe deer (looked the same as any other to me). Spent an hour or so looking over the farm but it was mostly to crops and grass with a lot of the grass standing 3 feet tall. So after flashing the lamp for a bit over any open ground with no luck, we set off back to the first farm. Back at the stubble field out of the truck and Bumpy is onto one straight away calling with the lamp. It took me a few moments to catch on to what was happening and i was given the instruction to get the rifle onto the sticks. No sooner was this done than I realise the fox is on its way in at speed, the shout of OY from bumpy the fox stops in its tracks and I immediately squeeze off a round and its all over. My first fox to rifle. I want to go and get it make sure its truly dead, make sure i hit it. It was all over so quickly almost no time to take in what had just taken place. No we are not going to collect it ( what if we never find it my first fox) we are off down the field we have another in sight. Not my sight I hasten to add Bumpy seems to have a sixth sense for all things moving at night. See that badger he says I respond with a yes not wanting to admit I had not seen anything only to spot it 10 mins later as we walk over the field. Target number two has gone but another fox is now in the front left. Not sure if its the same one maybe trying to get scent of us moving to get down wind. We are off further into the field now after the eyes and trying to improve the angle. The eyes are still now weighting for our next move. I am offered the chance to shoot but its maybe 100m out just the head showing with a rifle I have only fired once so I chose not too and Bumpy took the vixen, with a single well placed shot. Now to find it. Not so easy but I am sure its down and about 20 mins of searching we found it and set off back to my first fox which turned out to be a lot smaller than I thought it was . A quick picture and we are done for the night. I must practice seeing in the dark but a big thank you to Bumpy for my first rifle shot fox roll on the next chance I cant wait. So much still to learn,
  8. Paris opens doors to City of London businesses looking to relocate after Brexit vote . Slowly slowly catchee monkey.
  9. Better still manage with out one. Plenty do.
  10. I once climbed into Kilchurn Castle (banks of Loch Awe) at night (unfortunately it was closed and I wanted to visit). My friend wee Jimmy Campbell (5'8") was too small to climb the walls so I gave him a lift up onto the battlements. Turns out that during the clearances the Campbell's were installed into the castle by the English. So I like to think that our foray into the castle and my lifting the wee Jimmy into place, was a simple reenactment of history.
  11. Wales are the team well done boys excellent result. I will be cheering from here on the next game. A quality British team at last.
  12. I shoot one all the time and had mine just under two years (about 7000 shells a year) its a synthetic. I bought it new for less than £700. Its perfect for me easy to clean, but i only do this every 1000 or so (wash the stock under the tap). Well balanced and tough. Easy on the fingers loading in a rush and simple well placed safety. Warm on the hands and decent grip when wet. Easy to strip down and few moving parts. I would not buy anything else.

    Ancestry

Fingers crossed on the under wagons. A few years back I put my name into an ancestry search engine and it came back no records found. The next day I had an e mail saying your father and grandfather are in grave numbers x and y at London Road cemetery. Thinking it was a scam I sent back an enquiry which came back with more detail. I replied again and started talking with a chap who had spent the last 30 years researching my family history. It went right back to the early 1500 where they were tenant farmers of the lord mayor of London based in Warwickshire. They were thrown off the land under the land reform act and went to Coventry as weavers. It gets a bit woolly at this date as people could not read or write in many cases so the search was stopped as the surname spelling has changed. I went to visit him in St Annes and was given a full set of everything from wills and photo's to indentures and birth certificates. When I was a child I was given my Grandfathers 1st world war medals that had been thrown in the bin together with arm and cap badges, in disgust at the war pension paid. The medals had been rescued and passed down to me, the cap and arm badges given to a girl in the family to play with. This girl was the mother of the chap that had researched my history and he had the badges to go with the medals which he gave me to go with the first picture I had of my Grandad. I had never met or heard of this chap before this date. There is so much detail that I understand he lodged it with the National Archives?
  14. Well done mate. The first of many.
  15. I hope you are going to make a formal complaint with your points, its the only way they learn. On flight back from Africa in May the cabin crew did not do proper procedures and I made a complaint. Took some time but I hope the messages get through.
  16. The budget is already set to increase 0.5% in real terms (above inflation) year on year to 2021. I would rather defence spending was properly managed and the forces set at a level which is realistic and fit for purpose. I see endless reviews, changes of direction internal arguments and a lack of realism. Britain is a small country and 2% of gdp is enough.
  17. Thx for posting. A sorry state of affairs by the sound of it. Unfortunately the stuff does brake down fortunately not so often. All the worst when all as you want to do is get home and probably already tired. Not sure what else they could do?
  18. I suggested this earlier and was told that it works against the bigger guns as more is lost. I suggested a spade.
  19. I am with you on this. I rate NS as one of the better politicians. She is sticking with the mandate that she received from Scotland what more can you ask? She is also a very adept and able speaker and negotiator working hard for her country. We could do with some like that south of the border.
  20. Nice one mike. It looks remarkably pristine. A pair from Essex Keeper nice work. Off out on friday night fingers crossed.
  21. Interesting. My wife is Slovak worked in 7 different countries for her British employer, speaks 4 languages and pays 45% tax.
  22. I think your being a little unfair with your 'ad hominem' ( love that phrase) approach to some one who just has a different opinion from you. A little tolerance goes a long way in this world. We have more in common than differences after all.
