Primary investigation for funding. I only collect the tubs and jars. I am retired but do this now and again for pin money to fund my own trips rather than use joint funds. Interesting thing was the lido was full of fish. Our driller (ex fisherman) said that the eggs get brought in by birds? Either way it was a cracking fish pond.

Acouple of weeks ago I was taking soil samples from an Edwardian lido in Bath. Its a stunning setting and i was desperate to find some archeology in the pits but zilch.

Cracking garden. Here I have put in the wildflowers this year perennials and waiting to see what and when they will flower. I spend my time mowing and mowing and strimming. Problem I have is my wife wants everything spic and span so even the wild flowers have to be organised. Even the bench got painted.

I cant hit clays for toffee I think its the expectation of them coming out and thinking through what I have to do. Far better with the gun on pests where the shot is for me more instinctive with less thinking time.

I had armed police do my inspection. I asked them if they shoot and they both said they have enough in the day job

Fascinating thx for posting. Industrial Archeology is fascinating. I remember a site in Black Country called the cracker that was used as an animal dump and was suspected to house Anthrax.

Unfortunately the Home Office removed this helpful advice in their latest guidance to firearms law despite BASC objections. The Home Office no longer offers any ”guidance” on this matter – it is silent. The Association of Chief Police Officers’ advice is to encourage a nationally consistent approach to the requesting of medical reports associated with applications. The decision to request additional medical information from an applicant’s GP should only be made following a risk assessment and be proportionate to any concerns that have been raised. There should not be a blanket policy of requesting medical reports simply because a declaration has been made. They do however recommend that where a medical report is considered proportionate, that the applicant be written to making them aware and putting the onus on the applicant to pay for and provide a report from their GP.

Four hundred rounds through the .22 rf cz455 trying to learn what it will do and more to the point what I can do. Practicing here in the garden walking and setting up and firing and I am confident to put 90% in a 1 inch circle at 50 yds off the sticks. So last night upto a local farm to try stalking for some rabbits. Arrived at 2000 to get out of the truck at the bottom of the yard to see a rabbit 50 yds away ready to test my skills. It looked like it had been planted there ready and waiting. Not wanting to scare it away by getting the sticks out of the pick up I tried to rest on the rear tub. As the rabbit was down in the dip I realised whilst I could see it I was likely to put a hole in the car so time for a rethink. Holding against the ladder rack I took the shot and collected the rabbit. On collection I realsed it was probably a little further out as the bullet was a little low ( i might need that range finder). Forgot to take a game bag so left the rabbit where it was. Then off to walk the top fields wind in my face only to see several targets make a run for it . At the far side of the field I was walking down hill to the warrens and set up on the top looking down. Nothing for 30 mins so picked up and walked back to the start and noticed one back from where I had just been. Took a shot at about 40 yds and that was two in the bag enough for tomorrows dinner. Now for the questions. When the rifle is loaded and its been fired is it acceptable to leave a bullet in the breach whist walking around with just the safety on? Is it possible to unload without spitting the unspent cartridge out into the grass? The scope is a Hawke 3-9 X 50 and at 50yds range with the scope focused the indicated range on the front of the scope is just over 30yds is this normal? Will altering the eye piece focus change this? When resting the rifle on the sticks I am pulling the sticks towards me with the sling which is ok but i wonder if there is a guide on how best to make a stable platform?

I went to see it once (free tickets ) in Belgrade it was a surprisingly good night. At the door you were given a flag of your country to waive. They were so surprised to see some one from UK there they did not have a flag to hand and brought me one in the audience. Impressive co operation by the Slavic countries on the voting and also how serious everyone took it. I see last night Australia were competing! Looks like a new EU recruit don't you think? May have to be a bit more flexible on their immigration policy.

Cracking day in more ways than one. Good luck with it all.
