  1. I see lads walk across one strip as a short cut rather than follow the shore as they assume its solid enough. What they dont know is the farmer was called a few decades back to haul a bloke out as he had went down to his waist in sloppy mud at the same spot. When i was 11 stone i had the chance to "roll out" if i got stuck on mudbanks. But these days with my dramatically increased body weight after giving up the fags id sink like a stone!!!

    BSA Meteor

The amount of rabbits and doos i shot with my "super meteor".Bought it for ten quid from a sports shop in Glenrothes in 1978.Stared at it under the counter glass for weeks till i persuaded my dad to top up my cash
  3. Breaks my heart to know icelandic greylag are being hammered up in the northern isles the way they are.We had greys on the Eden when i was a boy.None now. They claimed they were stopping up in Orkney. If that were true and they were doing the same from other greylag haunts (staying up north) then that explains the rise in greylag numbers up there in some part.It comes as no surprise at all to hear they are being culled on their nesting sites. This ends one way for greylag in the next 20 years.Im ashamed i shoot sometimes.
  4. I keep telling the younger know it alls the same thing.Stop being so cocky and ALWAYS assume the next step will be lethal when out on the mudbanks. If you aint nervous out on the banks far from shore you are a fool
  5. I agree with Motty on this one.I have a year old lab here thats pretty good on the whole but if he does run in he gets reprimanded .It has to be this way although i do feel it ,unavoidably, dampens his spirits.Imagine a strong tide , a winger flapping away low a few feet above the tide and out to a rough sea.Do you really want your hound running on without you knowing if and where he will end up,possibly drowning through sheer over enthusiasm?Naaaa keep the dog safe .part of the famly 1st and foremost.Disclipline can feel harsh when they are young but it may well save their lives .And i had a double earlier this season ,exactly what motty was on about. The lab stayed firm im delighted to say and insinctively went for the bird furthest out that was at that point a flapper. The duck dived and the dog came back in and stole the first bird !!!I had to laugh,The furthest away surfaced again so he legged it back out for his original prize ,but its a learning curve and so rewarding when it all comers together for them

    Food banks.

walk a mile in someones shoes before opening yer hole bud.
  7. You know, ive never done this, but my old man used to mix BB and #6 etc when he flock shot for a living a very long time ago.He reckoned the "mix" of shot was more lethal than one size alone. As i say i cannot confirm that one way or another but i do recall the shed always full and the bathtub needing emptied of geese lying on newspapers every time we needed a bath as he had no space left for the bodies! So he must have knew his stuff i reckon.Lead shot naturally back then.
  8. Refreshing to see many agree with me that 3.5 is kinda not really worth the extra cash if buying loaded nor the extra recoil.Put the bead where its meant to be and the 3" rounds do the job more than adequately at the correct ranges prescribed for steel shot ,or any other shot for that matter.
  9. Perhaps wrong wording.I was used to alphamax BB as a youngster .More than ample in my Baikal hammer back in the 80's..Maybe 60 pellets in there with lovely patterns.I have found again and again that gamebore 3.5 BB just dont work for me.The #1 i agree are good enough. That is until i started experimenting with their 3" and then homeloads again in 3".I still cannot get a thick enough rto though with the handtools i use.Was fine with lead but i wanted a rto twice as deep for steel .Btw if anyone has a resizer for a lee loadall let me know.I have misplaced the old hand made steel cylinder that we used for decades so i cannot resize 12 bores this season as yet.
  10. I can assure anyone here, from my own experience, that in my s/s using 3" rounds patterns immeasurably better than 3.5" loads.Noticed the difference within the first 2 shots fired at flighting geese and later on patterning.I am using a yilditz btw not an older gun but the rationale is the same.12 bores and huge payloads are not as good as people will like to think. The 3" round is more than capable .consider the pellet count compared to lead.3.5 loads in steel if you do the math its an absurd load to put thru a 12 i reckon.
  11. hijacking someones request for something is bad form

    10 bore

i may have a ten -single 36" barrel stevens for sale for the right price.
  13. I have this same model but mine has 36" barrels and it swings on high geese like a master painters brush..Lovely guns
  14. when cleaning it does tighten at the muzzle when you are pushing the rod thru so it does have SOME choke.this fixed choke mp153 model was made in either cyl. or modified or full choke .spocks logic it aint full and as the phosphor brush tightens as it goes thru the last few inches to the muzzle is shows it has SOME choke so it cant be cylinder? That only leaves mod.? "The MP-153 is manufactured with fixed choke available as Cylinder, Modified or Full variants"
  15. no idea what this mp153 is choked at this time.has an oval shape (like an eye) with what looks like a goal post inside it after the 18'4..??
  16. No crud, must cycle all rounds with friction rings doing their job as they should.Longer barrel prefered but not too fussy.
  17. you went home for a ****?? seriously? Maybe i misunderstood?
  18. As per title.I need to use up some bismuth shot so ill load up some alphamax style RTO rounds.I have cheddite cases already primed that are ideal for 23/4 bismuth i reckon.Pondering the grains required for a 36g load.I already done some and they tested at 1375fps.Anyone got some cheddite csb-0 recipes?? In a #3 shot they should be good on duck or close geese.Ill buffer this batch probably to save on any shot powdering --but thus far shot seems to be stable and non powdering even without buffer added
  19. Ill have that please old bean( if it has 1/4 choke)
  20. Anyone else if fife do black powder???
