  1. I applied for a ground game and vermin condition to be applied to my .22-250. When the FEO phoned, he asked if I still wanted my .22lr as a result. I said that I did, because there are instances where you can't effectively control vermin with a centrefire... i.e. at night, or in smaller confines. He agreed that it would still be necessary due to topography of land etc, so was fine.
  2. I'd say after talking with the keeper, i'd have set up a sort of syndicate, where 3 or 4 of your mates were put on the estate to cover it properly.
  3. A chap on the AirgunBBS has one for sale at the moment.
  4. Sounds good I'm on holiday in a few weeks, so i'll have a bit of time to hit the gets.
  5. Any .22 centrefire will do the job, mate. Buy a Lee Classic Loader (search that on youtube) and you can have the reloading gear for £20 + £40 for the other bits and bobs. That'll halve your ammo costs, and won't take long to recoup the cost (maybe 100 shots). I've got .22-250, and it shoots faster and flatter than the .223 or .222, but as I said, any will do nicely.
  6. If you do manage to shoot a pigeon, try plucking every feather off it. Then you'll get a better idea of where to place your shot. As you'll see, the head really is tiny, and the bit you need to get a clean kill is smaller still. As mentioned already, it depends on how the bird is positioned in relation to you, and how far you are away. The distance for a clean kill will really be down to your confidence and marksmanship. Don't forget that the POI will change if you're shooting upwards. Personally, a neck shot just above the crop or a heart shot through (or under) the wing is the best.
  7. Try this company: http://gaugemate.com/shopcart/index.php?cPath=22 It's in the US, but postage isn't too prohibitive.
  8. Cluny Clays is a very good informal ground. Dead easy to find - Just off the dual carriageway. I'd say the 45 mins is the maximum time it would take from the centre of the city. Probably more like 30. If you have your own equipment, gimme a PM closer to the time and I'll meet you up there to show you around.
  9. I have a 9-13" notched LM version for sale - Not swivel though, unfortunately.
  10. I got "ABCs of Reloading". And a lovely wee hand made card from my 8 year old.
  11. Lol Alan Rickman AKA Alan Partridge... Aha.
  12. Nothing better than spending time in the countryside (with a shotgun). Add a couple of sarnies and a flask, even a disposable BBQ for downed pigeons, and it's just a great way to relax.
  13. Crikey, that's fast! Mine took 7 weeks.
  14. Doesn't make a huge difference, but then it also depends on the quality and effectiveness of the moderator. The high velocity .22lr round doesn't produce high levels of gasses on ignition compared to a centrefire, so there isn't as much initial blast to take away. Use a good mod on a centrefire, however, and the difference between mod and no mod is very clear.
  15. I have this Franchi Hunter semi-auto shotgun in 12g. Haven't had it for long, but long enough to realise it doesn't fit me! 3/4 choke 70mm chamber 27" barrel Took 30 odd shots to down just half a dozen birds which just ain't me. Cycles 100% of the time with 28g or over, and most of the time with 24g. I've done some work on the stock and metalwork, bit of tru-oil etc. The fore-end has had a hairline crack at some stage in it's life which has been repaired and holds well. The odd dink here and there, usual for this age of gun. Looking for £150 Can RFD for an additional £30
  16. You could always try baiting... Leave some food in the same place on a nightly basis, and sit in a good, hidden spot.
  17. I'd say you could line it with pink velour if you want, mate. Might get a few funny glances from the FEO though!
  18. Take an overdose of garlic. Rub some garlic juice on the exposed parts - neck, arms etc. You might be surprised at how well it works. You'll feel perpetually peckish, however!
  19. Welcome to the forum mate. If you want a couple of other forums with loads of local lads, PM me and i'll let you know. I'm not that far from you.
  20. I got one and used it on a rimfire. Was alright, but they aren't too steady and fall off if you twist the gun in any way. Only a tenner though.
  21. Whatever the size of piece of land you have, you have to ensure that no shot will go beyond your boundaries, so the fact that you're in the middle of nowhere counts for little. Hard to say if the 7 acres will be deemed suitable, but as stated, phone your local firearms dept and they'll help you. What distances are you likely to be shooting at?
  22. Not necessarily. I put (for example) In my last variation: .22lr rifle .22-250 rifle That's what came back as being able to acquire. I was then able to choose between semi auto, bolt action, lever action etc for the .22lr. Obviously the .22-250 can't have semi auto, but still could have had a break action for example.
  23. If you put down .17hmr rifle, then you can buy a .17hmr rifle.
