  1. I used a Stanley knife blade pulled along like a scraper.Keeping the blade at 90 degrees to the wood.Taking care not to let it cut just scrape. The varnish came off easily then sanded down finishing with wire wool. I used Danish oil and am very pleaded with the result. So I did 3 guns. Not expensive ones but they looked superb when finished.
  2. Which ever way you choose could you pop some pics on here for us to look at. I like some of the older knives.
  3. Love it a proper mooch about.
  4. Another advocate of diesel.Barrel ends overnight in a tub of diesel. Then look at ways of preventing them seizing in again.
  5. I'm a bit like that.Dont get out often enough really. Its practice I need.Somedays I shoot fairly well but others not so.Main thing is I really enjoy it.
  6. Belting hat. They sell for about 85 pounds. I never find a bargain anywhere.
  7. Is it a key for a sluicegate?Very neatly made cracking work ..again.
  8. Only one I have ever seen on the road belonged to an old chap round the corner. It was his pride and joy and had a rolls Royce engine.maybe that was a modification as it was an ex ambulance. Sadly both are long gone now.
  9. This is going to be a great thread especially with your attention to detail.

  12. It's a real shame because chef Brian Turner had a great partridge recipe on James Martin's new tv show.Promoting it as a tasty game bird for people to try. Maybe we could somehow get some more tv chefs to promote game.
  13. Ours barely registers on the smart meter when the heater clicks on.Its not on for long tbh obviously more in the winter but still negligible.Powerhead runs all the time but we don't have an airpump ours is aerated by the powerhead
  14. Brilliant picture. I'm sure he will never forget the flight.
  15. Mailspeed marine do quite a range of dark ones but best advice is go to a chandlers or fishing shop that does fly or pike gear and try some on.Only you can decide on fit with a gun. I think orvis used to do some green ones for boat fishing on the lochs.
  16. Ours are serviced annually. As well as daily visual checks. One of the main things to keep an eye on is corrosion on the cylinder and firing unit(whatever type it is auto or manual).
  17. Good video and safety advice. As a coastguard rescue officer I support the use of lifejackets because they do exactly as their name. Also modern ones are not bulky and can be worn all day unnoticed by the wearer.
  18. Yes I remember them very well the bigger the bolt the better.Bit of a swine if it went off on your last matched and you had to start all over again.
