During my apprenticeship many moons ago it was 90%Springwasher use thats what we were taught.Nylock nuts have their uses in many applications but on engines and associated bits(big marine diesels,marine turbines and later HGV's)It was springwashers.

Seem to remember on one of mine years ago, I moved the safety to on and back off again but that was for maintainance though.Wouldn't be quick enough in the field to get a second shot off at same target I don't think.

Great stuff.Those locks look fairly basic.But very quaint.A bonus in the environment they were used in. What fantastic treasures and pieces of history.
