  1. It’s the cost of the tooling and setting up. You would need to sell tens of thousands to get your investment back
  2. Had an interesting debate today with one of the UK’s top triallers and breeders and a breeder of both working and show labs, also a trialler. It went something along the lines of where do we stop with health testing and what’s next? Our collective concern was breeders focusing on the scientific testing to the detriment of temperament and innate working ability. That is not to say that health tests are not important. Rather is the demand for 0/0 hips and elbows all too much especially when we see pet owners demanding it for dogs that will rarely move off the carpet and when what we as pickers up want are dogs that are biddable and do the job. My personal approach is to require sensible hip scores and health tests are a nice to have but that’s where it stops. In over forty years of training and working I have never had a dog with a congenital problem nor a duffer in the field, by just being sensible. Be interested in your views.
  3. Rather than look at a percentage increase I would go online and do a search for rental properties in your area and what they are on the market at. You can then compare monthly total rent with what you are being asked to pay.
  4. I agree but still be better multi-storey. You can get double deck temporary parking but that would be common sense!
  5. Back on topic! use Dumfries Hospital on a regular basis and my wife volunteers there. It is not as bad as many hospitals south of the border but it is still a lottery as to whether you get a space. Generally I have to drive around to get the odd one furthest from the entrance and that is a new hospital. Curb parking is common. The issue is that site space is limited and the easy option, multi-storey is too expensive. Missing an appointment though when they are so difficult to come by is scandalous.
  6. Have you tried using a liner inside a standard lead wad? I use 410 plastic case when loading tss.
  7. Great stick with max 24 gm load; I use 21 gm 6 Eley VIP and improved/quarter chokes.
  8. I am the same with goose burgers😂 got 40 odd left!
  9. He hasn’t lost his case he has lost an application for part of the Mail defence to be struck out. The main libel case has yet to be heard. I suggest you hold your comments until it has. This is just the usual legal positioning prior to the main event.
  10. Yildiz are a great little gun and won’t break the bank, especially second hand.
  11. Fantastic. I love it and add streaky bacon to the mix when frying the liver. Sadly I have excess iron so this rarely goes on the menu these days
  12. Some good advice above. Cartridge fashions come and go with the latest being super fast cartridges with 32gm or above loads in largish shot. One thing I haven’t seen asked is what length chamber your gun is? Placing that on one side there is a reason that 28gm loads have stood the test of time ….. they work. Almost any manufacturer in this load No6 will kill if you do your bit. The best in my view are the Professional Game mentioned but I wouldn’t be fussy as you might have to just take what the dealer has. This load will also be easy on the shoulder! just enjoy the day and don’t get hung up on what you put through the gun!
  13. Next base wired at Halfords. Done three cars for me
  14. Pm your email and I will see what I have in Alan Myers old catalogues and other stuff I have.
  15. All that matters is you like it. My favourite dog artist is Steven Townsend, also a great bird artist. Have several of his prints in the lounge. Still have one of his sheepdogs unframed in the wardrobe.
  16. Well done Fil for stepping in and giving practical advice based on your considerable experience. .” Panic” just about sums it all up.
  17. I load my own as getting commercial stuff is murder to get and expensive. Everyone who shoots tens that I know does the same.
  18. Well I used to commute into London from up here but glad I don’t have to any more!
  19. Will try and put one together for you. They are heavy but surprisingly pointable with 32” barrels.
  20. One skein and missed it clean partly due to a misfire of my home loads😡 Rob, I long ago stopped taking flasks out. The moment you start pouring a skein goes by. The gun is an Akkar triple barrel I started shooting this year. It is 12 bore multichokre with 3.5” chambers. I shoot two light modified and a full choke in the top barrel.
  21. Everyone involved in this, apart from those appearing in the witness box, are being paid on an hourly basis for all time they spend. That includes half an hour in the bath thinking what questions to ask. Senior lawyers are particularly expensive in my significant experience of such things.
  22. What a morning to wake up to the world on the Merse! A nippy -6 but worth it to just witness the start of a glorious day.
