  1. Plus one. Round ball squash to thickness and whack it in the pan
  2. Emtec, sonic, inexpensive in comparison with electronics, well made and comfortable. I have been using them for twenty plus years and on my third pair having lost others.
  3. All sound advice and I would go AYA no2 every time. Tried and tested Maker and model, plenty of choice, known for reliability and plenty of spares available anyway. It is also a side lock whereas your other choice is a side plated box lock judging by the advert.
  4. I agree. When I first started working spaniels I used minced raw tripe but found it too hit and miss. I went on to a good puppy kibble and have stuck with that for over forty years. I have changed brands largely to suit the dog as not all seem to do well on every brand. I have never used additives as the manufacturers have done all that work for me.
  5. Not a problem mate we got the idea👍
  6. That is the flowers that germinate the cobs to the best of my knowledge. The seeds are the individuals pieces of the cobs.
  7. I would say avoid the small pan type. They are okay to a point but difficult to control. I toyed with making or investing in one. If I bought it was going to be an electric Bradbury that was almost self regulating. The cost though put me off and I put all my fish, goose, pheasant etc into the local smokers and they do the job at a reasonable cost.
  8. Good Luck and No 2’s can be picked up at the bottom of the price range at auction So it is worth keeping an eye on Holts, Southams, Mitchell’s etc.
  9. I appreciate you and I are aware of the properties of the alternatives and my post does not suggest steel or the eley load is suitable in all guns. It is though suitable in a hell of a lot. There are substantial numbers of people who believe their guns have been rendered obsolete and that just isn’t the case. I am no more happy about this development than anyone else but there are people who simply do not have the facts right or are peddling incorrect information, and I am not suggesting you are. All I am trying to do is put the facts out in answer to the original questions raised. “if this transition takes place.. It appears most Vintage side by side & O/U shotguns will be phased out completely, as getting the barrels proofed or nitro sleeved to withstand steel shot will outweigh the guns retail value“ I emphasise the word, most. I have a lovely Charles Lancaster duck gun with Damascus barrels which will not be seeing steel cartridges but it is not “obsolete” and it will not be nitro sleeved. Nor will the other dozen or so English guns I use from time to time be sleeved but some may be used with steel as they have chokes of half or less. I will see how things develop on the ground.
  10. No and that is not what I said! If you want to use those chokes IF lead is banned you can do what I do with my full choked 8 bore fowling gun and use tungsten matrix or bismuth. It is not obsolete unless you choose to make it so.
  11. Adding to this post I spent time yesterday with an English gunmaker. He has been involved in testing and patterning the new Eley cartridge in guess what, traditional English guns. The points he made are. There is no adverse effect on suitably choked barrels as the steel does not touch the walls. He has retrieved the eley wads and they show no sign of degradation They, and the jocker pattern fine He Has to spend time speaking to nearly every customer explaining that yes you can shoot standard steel through a gun that is not steel proofed as they produce no greater pressures than lead equivalents. You just have to avoid tight chokes. So it’s not down to the gun. The big question will be do they kill in the field on which the verdict for me is out. Everything else has been done to death on this forum.
  12. Well done, if you know the parents that is half the battle papers or not!
  13. Absolutely agree with all of this. In my mind the ultimate responsibility you take on when you buy that little fluffy bundle is the end of life care and responsibility to make the ultimate decision. i left it too late with one of my labs by the time I took him in for the final injection. He had little blood pressure and I was sitting on the floor with him for ten minutes whilst they finally found a vein they could use. I will never make that mistake again. Whilst they have a quality of life physically and mentally don’t put them through anything unnecessarily. When they don’t, just make the decision. They deserve at least that for all they have given us.
  14. You can buy a “midge hoody” which is cheap, lightweight and will do the job. Look on Bushwear site or tinternet generally.
  15. Great, have the grand children next week so would be a good bad weather project if needed.
  16. There have been a few scams reported re banking. Various service providers having your personal details and advising the they were unable to take your payment this month so please make a manual payment etc. They are becoming more sophisticated as banks tighten security. as to calls I have had BT call minder for years and have never had a time wasting call since. Highly recommended and I only wish I had it on the mobile!
  17. Spam or it’s cheaper equivalent, fried, cold with salad or in a butty.
  18. Shimano but I bought these about twenty years + ago. Used them mostly on Farmoor but want to use them up here for salmon.
  19. I have two old 10’ 6” powerloop rods and want to add a fighting butt extension effectively turning them into a double handed rod. There is a threaded hole in the reel seat with screw in cap. I cannot work out what the thread is. It does not appear to be the standard 3/8 BSF. Does anyone know or have one of these extensions? Alternatively I guess it is a case of getting the thread copied in a piece of aluminium rod to form the handle around. Thanks Dave
  20. Speed is a killer. We have been fighting for 20 through the village and Council haven’t even got round to that outside our primary school despite their policy. On a recent survey it showed one in three cars were exceeding the current 30 outside the school. Anything that slows people down in our villages and urban areas as a start gets my vote, and that’s just a start!
  21. If your after new try Riverside Outdoor. I have some of their kit and good quality at a sensible price. I found breeks big around the calf and had them altered.
  22. So sorry to hear that news. This is a terrible illness and there is light at the end of the tunnel if you will let people help you. I know as I nursed my wife back over eight years. We now have a great life and all is under control and no more issues.
