  1. I guess you don’t trail yourself fingers in the water then!
  2. I still use their old reels. They may be forty or more years old but I have always looked after them and they have never let me down. I also still use a couple of old Abu 505’s for float fishing. I would probably go with shimano if I wanted anything modern. My brother gave me one a couple of years ago and it has been faultless.
  3. Thanks Simon for the step by step guide on putting a new handle on the Opinel. Had a go with a last piece of red deer antler left over from the sticks. Not as impressive as yours and next effort will be better. Hardest part is lining the blade up to the curve of the antler and I can see why you do it by eye. I could probably have used a larger blade size as well but it works.
  4. This is not the way to go. A dog that runs in demonstrates that you have not got the basics right and introduced the dog to game and shoot days too soon. You go back to basics and the minute the dog moves you make it very clear it is not acceptable. I recommend using a paracord long line. It is light enough for the dog not to feel it but strong enough to stop the dog if it runs in and you can make it clear what is expected. Go back to basics, take your time.....and change your trainer. Good luck
  5. Short blanks do not have the power to propel the dummy.
  6. I have a Browning Gold that will be put up for sale shortly if you are interested in an auto and prepared to travel to SWScotland to view.
  7. Whilst I would not trust him that indicates to me he realises he is not going to succeed with his current legal tactics.
  8. I bought a pair of Harkila and after a day on the hill my feet ached like hell so I sold them. I would highly recommend Brandecosse if you can stretch your budget. They are superbly made and comfortable.i wear the 11” boot so not cheap but well worth it.
  9. I had three trails, two from new and one second hand. New ones did 100k no problems. Second hand diesel ejectors went at around 85k and I got rid of it. All were fine for what you have described. If you are not concerned about clearance I would definitely look at suburb forester or legacy. Had the latter and still going great at 150k. Moved it on as I needed more ground clearance.
  10. In my view, and experience here in Scotland that is £6-700 overpriced
  11. Worth contacting them. That was the case with my dog box and they had one made in a few weeks to fit
  12. Look at transk9 website. Their quality is second to none and theyproduce superb dog boxes and drawer systems. They are available separately. First class service too. good luck
  13. Not as far as I am aware of or I would have been pulled over by now.
  14. Yep I have to use 11 bore wads in the mag tech and you definitely still have to look after them
  15. Is it not worth investing in mag tech brass cases for the black powder; last a lifetime just need large pistol primers unless you bore them out for a standard primer?
  16. Well look further afield. You won’t pay anything like four figures here in Scotland and plenty of well bred working litters. As I have said though you need to get your name down. Friend of mine has a nice litter of WCA’s now two weeks old and all sold before born.
  17. Get in touch with known reputable breeders of working dogs of whatever breed you fancy and put your name down for their next litter. I can only speak for labs but all the litters I know of in the last twelve months have been spoken for this way. That way you get to know the breeder and vice versa and get a feel for price. You then go for whichever one suits you and your wallet.
  18. I have always done my own too. Buy the Rentokil foam from a good diy or garden centre and spray at night when they are in the nest and sleeping. Did one a month ago in the loft of my porch, easy.
  19. Most household insurers do it as a bolt on and some may include it anyway. As said though you need to look at the small print it is rarely all you would expect unless you are familiar with the product. Check your household insurer first as it is rare to buy it separately.
  20. It is not a matter of blocking free speech it is a matter of blocking offensive and inflammatory language. It is not about this councillor’s views but how he has expressed them. Well done BASC on this point. I remain a supporter of BASC but it does need to address the numerous clangers it has dropped over recent months. As it is not about what you do but how you do it and some serious thought needs to be given to how policies are formulated, expressed, and communicated to the membership.
  21. Thanks. The Claygame 12 bore brass cases are good value but you need to use large pistol primers. I haven’t tried boring out for a standard primer but told you can.
