  1. Teach the dog the first 3 rules, recall, recall, recall. You can't do anything else without them. Get the dog 100% focused on you, it has to know that all it's fun is with you.

    4x4 MPG

Subaru Forester 2.0d current trip reading over approx 14000 miles is 43.8 mpg

It's the only thing I've used that can make an off road motorcycle sparkle after a wash, truck wash etc is too aggressive & makes alloy dull.
  4. Slightly different format this year with a team shoot. There'll also be a pool shoot. As last year there are both team & individual gun dog events. http://www.aske.co.uk/ http://www.aske.co.uk/Portals/1/Documents/EntryForm2015-edited.pdf
  5. I don't think I've ever eventually named a pup the name we had planned prior to picking it. It's been the same with ones we've bred & kept.
  6. I've had several Cockers, they are usually affectionate & have a good nature, I'd say you can train them to be a Labrador. They are harder to train than a Labrador though, their desire to hunt can make them awkward. I've never had one not pick game but they can lack an interest in dummies, (****** that, I'd rather hunt) this makes training them to do long retrieves, blinds etc a bit of a con job rather than a simple ABC game you'd play with a Labrador. I'd also say that a Cocker is more likely to be fractious when you're out shooting. They're bright, inquisitive dogs & there's a good chance that whilst you're sat tight waiting for bunnies a cocker will be trying to get up to see what's going on. If i was going to train a Cocker purely as a retriever, from an early age - I'd get it to be retrieve daft I'd not allow it any free hunting & I'd keep it off gamey ground. I'd put Labrador skills into it, lead work, sit & stay etc If you've got some real rabbit ground, get rid of the rifle, train a cocker the proper way & shoot them with a shotgun. You can't beat the fun of rabbiting over a decent dog.
  7. If you don't have a dog which hole do you know to put your hand down to find the rabbit? Looks like rifle shooting rabbits is another thing that ain't done much of.

    Honda CRV

No problem. I think the chasing cambers thing was a know issue with them & that they changed the cars in 09 at some point. Our car was new in the March that year. A friend got one in the September & his didn't do it, good job as he drives 30k a year.
  9. Some decent Hilux deals about at the moment as there's a new model due.

    Honda CRV

We had an 09 plate diesel on lease for 36k miles. It was poor on fuel averaging a little over 36mpg over the whole 36k. It was also dreadful to drive over long distances as it followed cambers on the motorway, I've never had a more tiring vehicle to drive. The hands free phone was a joke, it only had voice activation & getting it call the correct person would usually take 4 or 5 attempts. A friend had a 6 month newer car with a completely different system on it so I guess Honda sussed they'd dropped a clanger. On the plus side it was a Honda so ticktock it never broke & we only did standard services & a set of tyres after 20k. It was fairly good in snow, it was also reasonable for steady offroad but there were situations where it wouldn't be conned into going 4 wheel drive.
  11. Will any car run on potatoes or do they have to be chipped?
  12. He's not handled the pressure / anticipation of the picking up situation, hence making the noise. There's a lot reasons why this could happen. I suspect that sooner or later he'll crank up in the hide as well. You can do whatever you like to him but he'll never 100% stop doing it. You can only hope to work out a way of managing it, you need to break the dogs focus on what is happening around him, distract him. Either learn to live / work with it or leave him at home.
  13. When you run on Desiree ones does your car pink? Is it just the farmers that can run on red potatoes?
  14. I suspect the numbers are the pups registered count for that year. I have a labrador born in late 2012 & then registered in early 2013, her number starts AQ000
  15. They refer to the year the dog was registered in, AP is 2012, AQ is 2013.
  16. I'd go Land Cruiser every time, it does depend on your budget though as to whether you get a 90 series or a 120 series. Join http://www.tlocuk.co.uk/forums/index.php& a bit of reading will give you the know issues
  17. Unless you get it very cheap you'll probably only get out of it what you put into it in parts etc, you'll make nothing for your time. For some reason the old Montesa models don't seem to have the same collectable values as the Bultaco models have. At a '76 model I'd have thought it's probably a UKR. If you post some pictures I can tell you what is original & what isn't.
  18. To remove all temptation to breed from her. I don't think she'd ever pass an annual eye test & therefore you really shouldn't breed. You do right going to see a specialist, I assume it's one from the bva list. Last year I had 2 vets tell me that a cocker I own had entropion, I took him with me when I had a labrador annual eye test & the specialist told me the vets had been talking rubbish.

  20. Have her spayed at the same time & it removes all temptation to have pups from her. It's an hereditary problem.
  21. I haven't looked to see how many yellow bitches he's had but to date all his offspring are black. If he is black dominant you would only get black pups out of your bitch. If you're wanting dark yellow you could try FTW Tweedshot Teddy who is locally based. His mother was one the darkest red bitches I've seen.

Volvo are part of the BASC discount scheme, although it shows as expiring at the end of this month We've put 12k on a Forrester since April. Never had a Subaru before but to date are liking it. Recorded 43 to the gallon since we bought it, would do nearer 50 if my wife drove it more often! Used it for picking up etc since August & I've not been stuck with it yet.
  23. Get through enough of them & sooner or later one will come along with an engine & a brain
  24. http://www.flickr.com/photos/29492623@N04/12723187143/in/photostream/ as Scott says, rushes. Also can be referred to as rashes or rashy ground. You'll be wanting to know what a Dougal is next.
