The only two shops I have used really are Crawford Sports in Maghera and Groggan Guns in Randalstown.

I bought a Browning Ultra XS off Steven at Crawfords and have been in a few times to pick up other bits and bobs, always found him very down to earth and easy to speak to and reasonable prices. Not scared of the big "D" word either! Good selection of branded fishing gear too and loads of country clothing.

Recently traded the above gun in with Harold Ewart of Groggan Guns in Randalstown. He really only does it part time as a hobby and seems to specialise mainly in AYA guns, I was able to browse 5 different No.2's before picking my lovely 1997 made single trigger with Prince of Wales stock. The same gun is making almost £2k even on the mainland but I picked it up for a snip at £1500 (the same price Tannyoky and McCloys were looking for similar guns made in the 70s/80s). My only negative is that he wasn't too clued up on the paperwork side of things and made bit of a mistake with my one-on/one-off transfer (I have the gun on loan from my father) but apart from that he was spot on.

Does anyone know where I could cartridges a bit closer to Londonderry though? Bit of a treck heading to Maghera :good:

LHC in Limavady does cartridges, bullets, clays etc very keen prices too!!!

Final one i cant remember the name, but its near dungannon (got a snooker table place in the same shop?) id avoid it like the plague! been in it twice, first time they didnt have the keys to the gun room, second time i bought a variable magnification hawke scope off them - when i got home i realised the bloke had only been messing about with the focus ring when he showed me, and it was fixed mag of 6!!

Yep,that's The Gun Shop.... not surprisingly,it's now closed. There's couple of shops around Dungannon, but they're quite pricey and as a new shooter, not that helpfull.

Spoke to one of fellas in McCloys' recently about a new gun....not the cheapest but at least he took the time to have yarn about what I was after.

Yep - that was my experience. They were really chatty and gave me good advice. Turned out I then bought a Beretta off them. As with any purchase, look around for prices and then go back to them with what you are willing to pay. I came away with a gun that I got for the same price as I would have from any gun shops online (including gun trader).

I would have absolutely no hesistation going back to McCloys - always been a pleasure for me.

Countrys Sports - Give's the impression he doesnt want to sell anything.

Lavin Guns - Tom Lewis is the chap. Not to bad, prices seem to be ok.

McCloy's - To pushy.

Burkes - The old boy's not to bad(as long as you dont mond telling him what your after 3 or 4 times),

Thomas Glass - Top class fella, keen to deal. Its the only gun shop I've been in were I didnt get the feel uncomfortable(like some shops).

yeah deal with tam for ammo. nice big chap. nearest shop is the one in toome and i`ll never be through the door again . too pushy and no matter what you are looking at a certain salesman always says great gun i have one at home. besides needing the calculator to try and tell you he is giving you a good deal on the well over priced gun he has for sale. you can buy cheaper elsewhere FACT

Hi Dazza I have seen this gunshop on my way through Ards.

What are they like to deal with?

I have tried Country Sports down there but thought they were a bit expensive :good:

Rob.

Its quite a small shop but Davey who runs it could not be more of a gentlemen, i am sure if you spoke to him he would be able to suit you up with what you need. My first gun was bought from firely 8 years ago and when i returned it back he give me a very good return price for it, very close to what i had originally paid for it when it was new, you should be able to pick up a bargin...but the shop is more foucused towards camping and outdoor pursuits rather than shooting.

Alternatively you could also have a look at Country Sports which is just qdown the road.

This topic is for gun shop's in Northern Ireland lol. Recently bought 175 fibre wad Lyalvale Express No.6 32's from McIlduff's for £41. Thought that seemed about right I suppose. Would have bought 250 but that's all he had. Seems hard to find a good supply of fibre wad 6's over here :hmm:

i phoned a gunshop mentioned on this thread from n`ards on sat morning.i asked what semi autos he had? the assistant started rhymin off semis and one caught my interest.when i asked what condition it was in i could hear the owner saying if he wants to see shotguns tell him to get in the car and come and look at them. i told the assistant i was 40 miles down the road and wanted to ask the general condition before i went looking in case it was a wasted journey. the owner took the phone off the assistant and proceeded to tell me plenty to look at come and see and hung the phone up on me.now i did n`t feel i was asking him to cut his leg off, i did n`t want to do a 80 mile round trip to look at a well abused gun. nuff said i`ll never be bothering him again.
