humperdingle
I'm carer for my wee girl at the mo, but previously worked nightshifts, and will after her treatment ends. I just prefer working at night - Fewer people to get in your way, and much more work seems to get done. You seem to get more time off, too, but sleeping patterns can be a bit disorientating. Guest gloker
Yes I work piggin shifts, have done since 2001. nights arent too bad once you get in 'night mode' Our lot are just rejigging all the shifts. There is hell on. Unions are talking about industrial action. (again.) They are always balloting about something. !
kdubya
worked shifts since I was sixteen so that makes it 42 years now, one more left to do thank god then I am finally finished!! when I was younger I thought they were the bees knees, now they are killing me litterally, I am supposed to work 4 on 4 off 12 hour days and nights but as I rarely get my days off its getting tiresome good money yes hard on whats left of the old frame certainly, avoid like the plague if you can? here endeth the lesson. steve_b_wales
I work alternate days/nights on a monthly basis. I actually work 13 shifts per month, which are 11.5 hour days/nights. I prefer these shifts compared to the three shift work pattern I used to do with this company. Also, it gives me many days off in the month to do whatever I like. The only downside to working nights, is trying to get to sleep when I get home in the morning.
Paddy Galore!
most of our work on this current site is nights, long ones at that, the minimum is 10hrs, most of us are doing 12 - 14hrs tho, we're chasing the tape and jointers all the way so we're last off site. Laird Lugton
5 earlies (0500 to 1600) but can be (0500-0900) 3 days off 5 lates (1100-2300) but can be (1600-2100) 4 days off 5 earlies...... Can take controlled rest if tired during work hours. Tempted by 9-5 until I see traffic at rush hour and the high street on a Saturday. mattslaptop247
I work 3 nights one week, 4 nights the next week, then back to 3 etc etc, so I work 14 nights a month in a forensic phsyciatric hospital. It means during the days if I want to stay awake I can get stuff done and the shops are quiet!
BigMungo
I work days for a week then nights for a week, and alternate weekends...My sleep pattern is all over the place but I definately prefer nights because you can get more done when its quiet, but when we are job on, its always more interesting

Thankfully, by law, I have to have minimum hours of rest and wouldn't be allowed to work those shifts. 112 hours per fortnight = 56 hours per week, I hope you're on good overtime rates. As previously stated, I HATE nights!
CZ550Kevlar
I do nights in London which is lovely, no traffic in London no traffic on the M2 trouble is though this time of year working on track in the middle of London starts getting damn cold especially starting from this Thursday night onwards the temps are starting to drop fast. As previously stated, I HATE nights! try 13 days of 12 hours at a time ( they make us take 1 off in 14) does get a bit tiring but the money is good and when its needed its up to us if we want it. IE I could work 37 hours a week but ah hem my retirement fund needs financing. KW
neil smith
Iv'e worked 4 on 4 off 12 hour shifts 7.00 - 7.00, for the past 15 years, its 2 days followed by 2 nights then the 4 off, it means the pattern moves forward by 1 day each week, so you get some weekends off. We also get 23 floating days per year so booking 4 off gets you 12 days away from work, plenty of time to shoot. N
death from below
Did shifts for 16 years but have been flexi office hours the last four - and If I don't go back to another shift then that's fine by me - they are horrible, screw with your body and shorten your life - it's handy sometimes if I wanted to do a bit of quiet mid week shopping but I have the internet and a moobile phone for that nowadays. They do suit some though, just not me anymore.
Bluebarrels
4x Days 0630-1830 4x Days off 4x Nights 1830-0630 4x Days off 38 Days holiday suits me just fine BB Only downside is during the summer months, especially at weekends when everyone is out drinking and cranking up the BBQ,and im going in on a nightshift BB
