al4x
I had two Jack Russels did a litter of feral kittens with the missus of the time there and that wasn't good. They loved it though. The current GWP is a bit of a toerag, so far we have the usual pheasants, partridges a hare she hasn't had a fox properly yet but has tried hard. All these have been tucked up very tight so she doesn't just peg birds so to speak. Funniest moment so far was talking to a few dog walkers the other week on the edge of the village and she suddenly went onto a really solid point, they were really interested so I said it must be a pheasant in the long grass and being cocky gave her the command to flush and with that a very large cat came out very rapidly with her in hot pursuit
henry d
....... a very large cat came out very rapidly with her in hot pursuit That`s the problem I may now face, she has had one cat give her a paw-ing and she didn`t like it. Now that she has pegged a kitten I`m thinking that we may need the vet on speed dial

So far my GWP hasn't caught one but I have to be very careful in the village as I know if she does get hold of one it will be terminal and really I don't need to be explaining that to any of my neighbours Pavman just get the missus to find a better storage place next time

Dempy
We went to a game fair at Cricket St Thomas years ago and walked our jacko round the old zoo, our mum was carrying her in her arms. When we walked past one pit she spotted a racoon, jumped from mums arms, broke her lead and went over the 3 foot high wall down in to the 8 foot deep pit to chase the racoon! The raconn ran to its house and the dog followed it in, then we heard her yelping and came running out with her tell between her legs with about 4 much bigger racoons chasing her, I leant as far as I could over the side and shouted to her and she ran straight up that wall far enough for me to be able to grab her by the scruff of the neck. Lots of people watching and very red faced!!!! Our terrier we have now has pegged to ferrets close to the release pen!
alfa taf
My GWP -sadly- not with me any more, would happily peg Tortoise even large ones as there are quite a lot on the Greek countryside. However hard I tried , he kept on doing it.!!
webber
A gamekeeper friend of mine had a really large lab; I don't mean fat, I mean big. It retrieved a cocker that still had the pheasant that it had retrieved in its mouth. Can you just picture it; please may I have my dog back! webber

mikee
My old girl who has sadly passed on now pegged a few oddeties in her time, wounded barn owl, a perfectly healthy wigeon, several hedge hogs, fox cub whos mother I had just shot, but the most memorable though was when she was young, I shot a teal on the river one morning which dropped in a creek, when she dived through the reeds the first fowl shaped thing she spotted was a swan, which she unceremoniously dragged backwards through the reeds with the rest of its family in hot persuit. The dog ive got now tried to peg my missus when she was hanging out the washing, he dug his dew claws into her sides and stuck in old fella up her hot pants, to say she was not impressed is an under statement, god knows what he was thinking, i spent most of my time trying to avoid doing it so god only knows where he picked that trick up mikee
UKPoacher
Mu old police dog Jet 'pegged' all sorts of things from TVs to motorbikes, and quite a few few thieves as well A memorable incident was out at Maltby where two lads had run off from a stolen car onto the Sandbeck Estate. Jet lead me into the park area where we discovered a rave in full swing. There were hundreds of people, cars doing speedway circuits and all sorts of nefarious activities so I pulled him back and radioed in to say I'd abandoned the search. As I walked back to the van I let him off for a run and ten seconds later he disappeared into the undergrowth and began to bark. I joined him and found the two suspects, as described by the witness, backed up against a tree; "Disregard the previous message......." Elby
My Spaniels have pegged the usual, a squirrel which left a big gash in her nose, several Moorhens and a couple of Munty fawns. My staffy was the funiest, I walked him up the shop, the chip van was outside with a big queue, as we got near he pulled towards a bush, thinking he wannted a wizz I let him go to the bush, he stuck his head in and came out with a cat, as he bit you could hear it being crushed. Think it put a few off their chips Edited November 29, 2010 by Elby

UKPoacher
Mine has a nose for leather and always seems to find dropped wallets. Is it a Scouse Terrier? I once had a pet GSD who retrieved and placed in her bed a ten pound note left out overnight for the milkman that had blown out of the milk bottle at the other side of a gate. Out feeding today and my spaniel put up five birds from one spot on the river bank:- three pheasants, a heron and a buzzard. By the time I'd worked out whether the buzzard was in season and did I need non-toxic shot for the heron it was too late to shoot
