tomaddy525
I am hell bent on getting a semi auto this year. I dont have a large buget, £300-400, so it it either a new hatsan or a second hand Berretta/Remington. I like the idea of the hatsans but there are a few rumors going around that they are not a decent quality. Please put me straight.
4eyes
Ohhh dear. Here we go again lol mines fine. So long as you keep it clean it works just fine. Just have to get the 2009 onwards model with the curved recoil pad/butt. The latest 2010 model also does not have the fiddly button on the side for loading the magazine which is miles better! Added to that their cheap as chips so if you drop it, scratch it or what ever who cares

It isn't a rumour, search this or any other shooting site for problems with Hatsans and compare that with ANY other shotgun. Some get a Hatsan that works (for a while) and are happy, many have issues and move them on quick, there are plenty of used Hatsans on the market. There are even more back at Edgar Bros being fixed or replaced! My barrel blew up, but hey, I was just unlucky apparently!
12borejimbo
I have one, and love it, I have shot Benelli, beretta and Franchi, I would love a Benelli, but being 23 and spending all my money on trucks rifles women and ammo (not in that order) I just cant justify it, so I wanted a cheap semi auto for shooting pigeons and bunny bashing with. I love it, mate has a beretta al391, picked it up the other day and commented on how the action felt (it is nice and solid, and I have never had a fault, its a great gun, I have cleaned it once in a year and put near on 1000 shells through it with no problems. I would never sell it, and if you buy one new you get a 3 year warranty with it! How can you not say no! So in the next 2 years I will save up enough for a beretta or that Benelli I have always dreamed of, but for now, Hatsan all the way! Get one, for £395 its a no brainer! Edward
Mine was great, worked fine 21-36 being the biggest I put through it. it didnt like 65mm but 67/70mm were fine. I sold just because I wanted something that I could take on a driven shoot and rather reget it now
silver pigeon 3
I have had mine for about 4 months now, i can honestly say that mine has been brilliant. I have used it on the clays to get used to it and only had a couple of jams, i think these were caused when i didn't push the cartridges into the magazine far enough. I mainly use it for pigeons and wildfowling and it has never jammed with 32g+ cartridges. For what i want it for i cannot fault it and i wouldn't want to take a expensive gun out on the foreshore as i would worry about damaging it. In my opinion for sub £400 new and around £250 second hand you will struggle to beat them. As for trying to compare it to berreta's and Benelli's that is a bit of a no brainer as you wouldnt compare a Ford to a Bentley would you? deejay
Just sent mine off to get repaired after a cartridge jam .Still under warranty though . Anyway what you have to decide is .Go for new hatsan with 3 years warranty on it or spend same amount on decent auto with no warranty on it, Now your hatsan for 3 years Is gonna cost £0 to be repaired , What happens if you have to send off your second hand one ..........now thats gonna cost depending on the problem . Me personally went for the hatsan and would buy another tomorrow . Darren
Paul223
theres two berettas and a franchi in my cabinet, they all get used quite often my mate has a hatsan it started misfiring not striking the primer (cos the bolts not locked up IMHO) it's sat in his cabinet for a loooooong time

fruitloop
all semis are the same no cleany no worky keep them clean and mantaind thay are reliyable but what you get is cos it only cost 10 bob and a conker new it gets used and abused and then stufed in the cabenet if there lucky thay might get a brush up the barrel. but it never gets striped the bolt and cleen it then when it fails its a pile of poo and gets a bad coment about the reliability when you spend £0000 on a gun it gets yr undevided atension and a servis at the localgun shop

CZ550Kevlar
heard of one purchased new and the barrel was bent , not sure if I would have one !! I`m sorry but if you go out and buy a shotgun and the barrel is bent i`m not sure you should be trusted with a SGC in the first place as you clearly should be checking things like that. Edit:- I have the fiddly version with the silly button on the side, however it has never failed, i have put thousands of carts through it and still on the original O ring and can keep up with the best Semi on clays and anything i point it at. poontang
There seems to be about a 50/50 split on the Escort, some good ones, some bad ones. That would indicate to me that Hatsans' quality control is in need of a major shake up. If it was any good their guns would be either ALL good or ALL bad. I wouldn't have one, their quality control lets them down.

Same here, had mine since early 2007, only problem was when it jammed which turned out to be a piece of cleaning patch I'd managed to lose between the bolt and trigger, if I'd known how to fully strip it then I could have sorted it in 5 mins. Edgar Bros arranged collection next day and I had it sorted, re-proofed and back in 4 days for free I've now got 2 more Hatsans, a 12g Silver Select o/u and an 85thx air rifle, both off here so thank you Pigeon Watch
steve_b_wales
I've got an 8 shot FAC version. Only had two slight problems, that were repaired under warranty. They are not the best of makes, admittedly, but, for the money, they are okay. I class mine as a 'knock about gun', and if I scratch the barrel/stock etc, then I'm not going to be too upset. There is a video on Youtube showing me firing the 8 shots in under two seconds. I did this to show how good it recycled the cartridges. I found that it did not like the 2 1/2 inch shells, but 2 3/4 were fine. Also, get a 3" chambered one, not the 3 1/2. Steve.
basherdan
I was in the same position last year, I wanted a semi auto on a low budget for wildfowling and occasional pigeon shooting, upon advice of previous owners of hatsans I decided against them as they are of poor quality, problems cycling and jam up spontaneously especially if they get the tiniest bit dirty. I settled for a Benelli M2 which was way over what I wanted to pay, but I looked at it this way, it would last me a lifetime, reliable, parts readily available if and when needed, also has a good track record in the field, the money you would spend on a Hatsan and find it is not up to the job and have all the above problems (possibly) I would go for a second hand Benelli or Beretta, or if you can stretch to it, a brand new one then you know exactly where it has been and what it has done. Hope this helps Dan
Devon Fox
I have an 8 shot hatsan on fac - has the fidly button. The only issue iis it only likes 70mm shells, but I love it & it hasn't let me Down in the 4/5 years I've had it! If I decided to change for another gun to abuse it would be the baikal mp that I would buy.
Evil Elvis
I hate them and ive never even owned one.......why? I shot with a well known Essex mafia member on the pigeons last autumn and spent most of the day watching home shoot one cart then spend 5 mins unjamming the next...or listening to dead mans click...as the cart didnt fire but then did in my gun. AND for all ther times ive been on clay shoots on a weekend and had to wait for some noddy with a hatsan to try 15 times to shoot 1 clay. SAVE YOURSELF SOME MONEY IN THE LONG RUN, GET A DECENT SECOND HAND BROWNING OR BERRETTA!!
chris64
Try one before you buy mines fine did have a problem with one choke but since then not a problem,if you clean them after a shoot same as o/u sxs they work fine, mine shoots 21gram up no problem,i've seen berreta autos jam 4/5 times on one stand at a clay shoot, one guy sent his berreta back 10 times before it got put right, you get good ones and bad ones. 308dave
I have a 3 shot and a f.a.c 8 shot, never a problem over 3000 shots through the 8 shot, i do clean them everytime i have been out. I do know people who have hade problems with extraction claw etc but on the other side my mate has a Beretta Xtrema2 that spends more time jammed than it does shooting, guns are like car i suppose you either get a **** one or a good one. This is just my own opinion and may not be to everyones taste.
J@mes
Get one with the curved butt plate as these were the later models and seem to have a lot less issues. I have one, fired all sorts of carts through it and 2 mates and I fired 500 carts through it on the trot at a local clay ground, with no issues. Get the opinion of people who have owned them - good or bad. Don't listen to the people who regurgitate what they have read, without having used or owned one
