Gun Watch - on PW Forum

I am lucky my local RFD is a good place. The gun sales was a good section as it was as you could get opinions of what others thought of the guns.

You also got the history of the members selling the guns on PW, from their posts and any feed back from previous sales in all areas. If a members user name has already taken on gunwatch by some one else, you have lost the history or can't say for deffinate its the same person unless they make a post like some have saying who the are on PW.

My take is that the old gun sales section was interesting, encouraged people to browse and was an integral part of what felt like a forum 'community'.

I must admit, gunwatch has made it feel slightly less like being a member of a community and a tiny bit like being a member of livestock. But then, as I've never actually bought a gun off PW, that's irrelevant.

It does feel like something has been taken away from the forum community :hmm:

I,ve bought and sold a handfull of guns via the "for sales" section so ,if i,m allowed it,my opinion is that the new gunwatch is horrible-i used to enjoy looking at the gun sales and submitting/reading some of the comments but now i dont bother-looked at gunwatch once and not been back there since.

And unfortunately a lot of the comments in the old for sale section were unhelpful to the point where we were continually asked to edit them out by the seller.

There is a bit of feedback for you :)

Feedback should ALWAYS be a 2 way activity.:good:

There are still adjustments to be made to Gun Watch and comments are noted.

On Private Sales we are investigating a way to get the Sellers Pigeon Watch username automatically on the advertisement.

You will notice its at the bottom of most of the Ads, but has to be added manually at the present.

A Seller can put up to three pictures with their Ad and if you click on the picture it will enlarge.

We are also looking at adding the extra thumbnails onto the Pigeon Watch post, and also adding the description field.

With regard to the query, "Problem I have is if you have revised the price in GW it still shows the old price on here, can't seem to edit the original feed".

This is under review, but at the present the Seller can post on the original thread saying the new price, or PM Teal giving him a link to the topic and the required amendment and he will manually edit the Ad.

Bit of feedback, I rang a "trade seller" about about a gun on gun watch, turns out it had been sold earlier in the week, I was on the phone to the chap who "does the website" and only works 1 day a week in the shop  Anyway gun was sold I shouldn't have been so slow (this was Thursday morning), Gun is still listed.....

The cynic in me thinks perhaps the same seller can avoid the listings charge by leaving old and generic adverts on the site?

Couple of points

I think it's better being searchable, i like the new format :good:

may be we need a browse button for those that think they need it

people always hate change, but usually get used to it

more pics would be a bonus

how about a follow topic / sale button to save having to post to find it again (although i think my first point covers that  )

Wow, over 700 views and only 39 comment's so far, of the 1000's of members, I guess it's OK as it is then :good:

I used the old format to buy and sell and have used the new one, and will again, it's still free and still effective. The same advert will cost £7-8 per gun on Guntrader and has a limited advert life.

Aside from it being a linked site there's only one other difference, the armchair dealers and critics can't add their pointless comments to "my" sale thread, these are probably some of the people who don't like it. You can still window shop and see all the pics, but now the seller only gets contacts from people who area seriously interested.

It's a "for sale" section not a place for banter, for those that "miss the banter" we have 22 others Sections on PW.

The quality of the pics is down to the seller, and was on the old format, you can upload more than one

It could'nt be any more user friendly, my 11yr old can use it.

IMO we should support our forum, but that's just my opinion.

Happy shooting :D

I have just entered my first gun for sale on 'gun watch' and have then added a post to it so that the first post to come up is a gun watch advert, but the second post is the same as it was on the old gun sales pigeon watch thread,so best of both worlds and brings it back to pigeon watch with a users name to it that we are all familiar with.

I think this is what is missing from the new style adds, but you will have votes for both camps, but with an added post its as it was before.........simples :good:

Perhaps we need a new section with lots of pictures of guns that people can add their comments to - especially for the armchair dealers and critics [© MITCHF 2011]

It's interesting that the only reply from someone in the thread who has listed a gun on GW seems to like the new format.

hahaha. Its stopped me looking for guns i do want though. This is how bad i think it is. I tried to log on and buy a gun a few weeks back. All i managed to do was send Teal a PM asking if he wanted to post his air rifle. Even he was ammused at that

Do you have shares in Gunwatch

You haven't mentioned the members who posted that they had brought in the past off the old site but not from the new one.

Have bought the .17hmr and the EELL from here and always used to look out for gun sales and although a lot of the usual pump was spouted,ie,if a was closer,if i had my SGC/FC,blah blah blah, there were also a lot of informative comments on pricing ect.I dont look at them at all now and hope theres no bargains going begging.Thats my opinion, and unlike at home im allowed one on here.

There have been some really good responses on this topic, and we certainly are listening to them. Some of the proposed changes are already being worked on to make it better. However, there are some important back-end changes to the system which are taking up considerable development time.

The current topics are a bit impersonal, and we agree that they are too brief.

So here's what we're doing, we're working on getting the PW topics to display more information, ie all 3 photographs from Gun Watch onto the Pigeon Watch listing. These photographs also won't be so small. The description of the item for sale will start to be displayed. Finally the PW username will start to be automatically displayed at the bottom of the topic (subject to ID check with PW registration), and this will mean that there will no longer be a delay between topic going up and me editing and adding it in.

It's a new system and it's not been going long, and really it's quite a big thing. There are certainly things that aren't right with it, or that could be improved, and they'll be done, so please be patient. Some of these comments we are hearing for the first time in this topic, and we appreciate them.

For the timebeing you are free to still reply to threads and usually the poster of the gun will check in and PM or answer questions. Or if you are the seller you can add additional info as a reply to the Gun Watch topic just like you would have on the old system.
