BenBhoy
hi guys. after bit of advice. from reading on here and in magazines i know how difficult it can be to get FAC, having to prove permission, species etc. but what i want to know - is this purely because majority of FAC applicants want a rifle? is the posession of a rifle the stumbling block? i ask because i am considering applying but only so as i can get a 5 shot shotgun, i have no interest in a rifle as i never intend on stalking or lamping. if i explained this to the police do you think i'd be able to get FAC wit permission i have for pigeon, rabbbit etc? hope i've made that clear, lol!! TaxiDriver
Just put your FAC application in stating what it is you want and explain why, emphasise the need for quick/multiple shot when the pigeons are flocking in thich n fast ! kent
You need to show "good reason" to have a 5 shot rather than a 3 shot, having somewere to shoot is of course essential but - why can't you do the job with a 3 shot? is the question that will be asked
BenBhoy
can i say because im not very good? just that there are times when 3 come in, say miss with one, be good to have the back up. think it likely?
Scully
'Good reason' is 'for shooting birds in accordance with the purpose, terms and conditions of the general licence currently issued by the appropriate authority under the provisions of The Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981'.Do not mention rabbits,as they are not covered under the provisions of the act. Stating you do a LOT of corvid/pigeon control would support your application, but wouldn't do so if you only have one field to shoot over, for example. fortune
can i say because im not very good? just that there are times when 3 come in, say miss with one, be good to have the back up. think it likely? I love that first one They might say "O dear, how sad, never mind" OR It'll teach you to load a bit quicker. I do use an 8 shot pump for rabbit shooting after the corn is cut. Got to have a good reason. Edited August 2, 2011 by fortune

steve_b_wales
To get my FAC shotgun, I stated that the reason I wanted it for for 'crop protection'. This was on the advice of my FEO. Steve. EDIT. Don't ask for a 5 shot,as this will restrict you.Just ask for a FAC shotgun.
BenBhoy
cheers guys, will look into it and let know how it goes. when i moved to the area and they came to check cabinet and existing guns the guy seemed like a real decent sort, shoots and beats himself so fingers crossed. edit - "beats himself"; sounds a tad wrong... EDIT. Don't ask for a 5 shot,as this will restrict you.Just ask for a FAC shotgun. I would be AMAZED if any police force attempted to state the number of cartridges a FAC shotgun could hold. There is nothing in the legislation that they could use to back it up. Its either S2 (2 or less in the mag) or S1 (more than 2 in the mag). Then again, with the way some FLD's make things up as they go, you're probably right! Just put FAC/multi-shot shotgun on the form!! Tiger955i
Please correct me if I am wrong but I am sure I read that it was illegal to shoot decoyed pigeons with a shotgun whose capacity was more than three cartridges.
Vermincinerator
Please correct me if I am wrong but I am sure I read that it was illegal to shoot decoyed pigeons with a shotgun whose capacity was more than three cartridges. That only applies to game birds Tiger and refers to semi-auto firearms. Ian.

silverhawk
I had alot of trouble getting a fac shottie,I had to get a letter from land owner for vermin in the end.And i was even a member of a practical shotgun club and i was still told to load faster with a 3shot .I got it in the end with vermin and psg attached but i couldnt see the problem to start with.I had all the good reasons just an awkward feo. They dont seem to like section1 shotguns .And its on closed ticket
