Browning 425 clay hunter
After the recent thread 'what do you drive' it got me thinking about some of the cars I've owned over the years, so I was wondering what cars people have owned that have been their favourite, This doesn't mean best name to drop to show off or boast. I mean the car that you have had the most pleasure from driving. To start off I will put mine up as a fiesta RS turbo running 200bhp I owned when I was 18, shocking reliability but when it was on song it was a monster to drive, no power steering, massive turbo(fantastic sound) plus when we were growing up it was regarded as the muts nuts (sad I know but we were kids) So what's your favourite motor you've owned and why ? I reckon its got to be my berlingo. Very reliable and as cheap as motoring can be. I know thats not very glamorous but then i dont have glamourous money. woodcock11
When I was young [a very long time ago] I had a Mini Moke - that was fun - it was in London in the early 1970s and was very popular with members of the fair sex My first ever vehicle was a MkII Land Rover - that was fun - it was in Ireland in the late 1960s and it went anywhere and everywhere. It was a real star when we were being followed by a load of losers after a dance. They were in a Ford Anglia with multiple spotlights on full beam. A hard shove on the brake pedal of the Land Rover, a big bang and oh dear - all those fancy spotlights went out and the Anglia spluttered to a halt. As for the Land Rover - a slight scratch next to the towing hitch..... My present car is also fun but I am going to abide by Browning 425s rules and not boast about it - so it remains a secret! -Mongrel-
Easy one this. Although I've had some seriously hairy motors over the years (Cossies, TVR's, M3 etc), my favourite however was a Volvo! Yes, I know, solid, staid, boring, driven by old fellas in a flat cap... ...unless you get a V70r. It's 2.5 litre, AWD, turbocharged beastie, sitting on uprated brakes and suspension with magnesium alloys, goes well, especially by the time it's had a few choice engine mods that push it closer to 300 than it's standard 250 bhp. ...And the best thing, it looks like a normal V70. So no boy racers wanting to rip it away from the lights against you, no hassle from the Boys in Blue, yet goes like stink when you ARE in the mood. Ultimate stealth motor as far as I'm concerned, still don't know why I sold it!

TaxiDriver
Choice of two really, used to 'Off Road' both vehicles quite seriously A 1973 Series III LWB landrover 2.6litre straight six petrol (very distinctive sounding) or more fun still my 1978 LandRover 'Airportable' Road going, First car aged 16 was a 1964 Minivan which I used to walk past on my way home from school, had an 850cc engine and pudding stirrer gearstick, got it on the road and swapped the engine for a 1000cc, that broke, fitted the engine out of an MG1300,(that was fun) eventually ended up with a 1380cc handbuilt engine with crash box. That went so mad the gearbox locked up whilst racing home from Southend and I stacked it :( Then I had my dads old 1.8 Marina (I know why TopGear have it in for them)

figgy
My favourite was a black mk1 VW Sirrocco ported honed and lightened and ballanced, fitted with a hand built custom exhaust it had race shocks fitted and all the coloured lenses were blacked out. Don't know what bhp it was but it embarrassed a lot of expensive sport cars. I miss the sound the most when accelerating to full chat the sound was amazing and wasnt overly loud the resonating on the over run was special not like the cack sound you get now from the boy racers around now. I've had a lot faster and better cars since but none put a smile on my face like that car. My son seen some photos and wants one. JR1960
£75,000 :o Tell me about it, i've had a few other nice motors that are worth ridiculous money now, enough to make you weep....
Asa Bear
I had a Mk1 Toyota MR2 in mica blue. The guy before me had chipped it and it would top out on the speedo before 4000rpm! I loved that car and put off selling it right up until the day my eldest came out of hospital. Edited January 31, 2012 by Logo
Shropshire_Lad
Proton mpi 1.3. 178000 miles on the same exhaust, nothing done bar a service when we felt guilty....Awesome. Shame it was like driving three box's round for years but when money was tight it served us well. atvb Paul.
Markio
Nissan 200sx S14. It had some mods to help it breath more easily so put out 244bhp on the rolling road. Great fun and RWD. I loved the seating position and sitting with your backside just off the ground. I'm not sad to see it go as it cost a fortune to run but glad I owned a daft car at some point. Cosd
Bright red Mazda RX7 when I was 18 years old way back in 1984. Dad wanted to get me an Escort because it was a "sensible" car, mum looked at him funny and said her son didn't need "sensible" at that age. Took me to a showroom and bought me the RX7 and off I drove B) That was such a cool car I just loved the sound of the wankel engine, was like nothing else on the road. Oh, and the then cool pop-up lights Edited January 31, 2012 by Cosd
Paul T
I loved my MGB GT. I re-built the engine (re-bored out to nearly 2.0) and completely replaced the interior. It was my daily car for 3 years and it only once let me down. A close 2nd was the Triumph Stag. Miles behind in 3rd is a 2.9i Scorpio. I'd have another of the first two again tomorrow
Imperfection
Also come on imperfection, what speed did it do at the redline in 6th No idea. The speedo stops at 150mph and the needle had gone right past that then rested itself on the bottom of instrument panel. At a guess inexcess of 160.The smile you got when nailing the loud pedal went from ear to ear.I miss the buzz i got from driving it hard.
