Rant !!

Cranfield

My Wife takes her 83 year old Mother shopping at Tesco, Larkfield, Kent, every week, about 40 miles from where we live.

She telephone me at 1.15pm today, very upset, to tell me that she has had her handbag snatched in Tescos carpark.

A scrote told her she had a dent in her car at the back, when she went to look, he snatched her handbag, jumped into a waiting car and was driven off.

They got the car number and the Police arrived, but told my Wife they had little chance of catching the thieves and she should cancel her cards etc.

Tesco's security were not in sight.

Why have they little chance of catching them, when they are there within 10 minutes and have a car make, colour and registration number ?

I have spent the last hour cancelling cards and chequebooks and ordering replacements.

As this is the first time something like this has happened to us, I have just found out that cancelling my Wife's cards, cancels mine, as we have joint accounts (even the credit card).

MBNA will courier replacement credit cards tomorrow, but the debit cards and chequebooks could take up to 7 working days.

The thieves have only got about £10-15 cash in the purse, everything else is useless to them.

I would have given them that, just to avoid all this aggro.

Rant over.

Any CCTV from the car park etc or the petrol station (if the Tescos in question has one). And if there was, would the police actually give a monkeys.

At a local railway station near us, the Railway lot staked out the car park with CCTV and all manner of cameras. Sure enough, a load of cars were broken into (you can set your watch by the regularity) and the whole lot was caught on tape.

The wife's mother got talking to the counter staff - apparently the operation was a complete waste of time. The station lot (I don't think it was BTP) handed over the tapes and the police's response was "what do you expect us to do with this? This isn't CSI Essex so unless you have a name and address to go with the pretty pictures...."

Too many ******* cameras in this country and not enough ******* coppers.

i hope your wife and mother in law aren't too shaken by the incident cranfield , robberies like this can be very upsetting for the victim , i know how you feel with the low interest response from the police because it seems as if they just don't care and that it's no big deal , we no longer bother to report crime in my local area as the police response is pathetic to say the least , they didn't prosecute the scrote that stole my motorbike (apparently catching him with the bike wasn't enough evidence however he did end up with 12 stitches in his neck from a police dog :good: ) and they didn't prosecute the scrote that cut the petrol pipe on my car whilst stealing my petrol (lack of evedence again despite 3 separate witness statements and me seeing him get away in the car),and they didn't seem very concerned that around ten gallons of petrol had flooded my house and garden either , however when i started ranting that i would deal with the scrote myself 2 police cars and four officers were banging on the door in minutes due to me having firearms on the premises (no threats were made by me but they were looking after the scrote just in case) , i supposedly live in quite a nice area but the thieving scumbags from just up the road see this area as easy pickings

Its a sad state of afairs for sure, hope she is ok Cranners.

In my experience unless you have a description of the offender in these cases the police put it down as a "non detectable crime" and issue whats called a "FWIN" (force wide incident number). These seem to be absolutely useless for anything other than proving the police know about it. Unless a propper crime number is issued nothing more will happen with the case and they will fiddle the stats so this doesn't get recorded as a crime for the purposes of them saying how many they solve (purely an excercise in statistics and lies).

Any description at all of the offender(s) seems to hit a trigger in behaviour and they will take it further (if there is a description they normally issue a crime number and someone will probably follow it up).

Its a total liberty that this kind of crime is the one that affects the most people, makes us feel unsafe being out on the street and yet they do nothing about it. Make model and Reg plate, surely they should have circulated that?

Shocking state this country is in

i'll agree the police are useless in situations like this, but im blaming the state of society and depraved humanity more. if there wasnt so much crime around, the police would have more time to deal with supposed 'less severe' crimes such as your poor wife and mother in law had to deal with.

i guess with murders, shootings, stabbings, armed robberies, child abuse etc being so common place these days, the forces we do have just arent sufficient enough to deal with what some people might term more 'minor' crimes. its a sad state of affairs

i hope your wife and mother in law are ok.

It's probably something to do with their hands being tied by liberal wets who bleat about the poor little victims of police chases. Thats in addition to it not being very likely that they would have the means of paying a fine.

Much better to concentrate on easy to identify targets - such as motorists with easily read number plates and the funds to pay for the police time.

BASTERDS.

Hope your mum and wife are recovering Ok Cranfeild.

Its the same over here. I got a police check the other morning at 7 am, to see if my firearms were kept in their safe and bolt stored seprately ect :good:

I got told i also need to put in an alarm, which will cost me 1800 euro

Never had to have an alarm before, the safe was all that was needed.

But, the criminal justice bill is coming in and the cops over here think they can start the law now. :good:

Ok for the rake of gang land shootings that are happening over here in our citys and the criminals that get away with it, nothing happens to them. They have all the unlicenced firearms they want, anything from Aks to 50 caliber sniper rifles. The cops know they have these weapons, they do nothing about it, just pick on us law abiding citizens, bullying us with their frustration.

Good luck Cranfeild, hope things get better.

Frank.

The common consensus would appear to be that until the public see a better effort from the police in catching who we perceive to be "criminals" i.e. people who interfere in the lives of normal law obiding tax paying individuals, then they really ought to leave off being little hitlers when it comes to traffic and other minor offences - after all, for 99% of the public the only time you interact with the police is when you are on the receiving end of a traffic ticket or when they are explaining how there is no chance of them getting ther person who stole your handbag / robbed your mobile / burgled your house.

Cranners, squeeze into a dress, get one of your wife's old handbags, crimp a large number 2 off into it and then wander the tesco's car park looking helpless and with said bag on display.

That'll teach 'em.

What a state the country is in.

I run a security company looking after a large estate in east yorkshire. On the 20 feb 2006 the gov brought in the sia licencing law.I know that there are some members who are security officers and will have done the 4day course to keep working they will be aware of the problems that this law as caused.

I accept that if you are dealing with people in a night club some form of training should be offered to protect both parties. I employ 4 staff 2 of them are of pension age they look after the internal work when factorys are shut down. The thing is that these 2 are so reliable yet by law I should send them on the course this would cost me several hundred pounds and they do not want to go on it I may only have them for a few more months then they will retire. The others carry out mobile patrols and check doors and locks.

The estate has a zero crime record my staff have been trained by my self to RAF Police standards I am an ex snowdrop. I also served in the army untill the age of 46 so you will gather I am use to dealing with people. Yet by law the fact that we protect property and look after many a persons livliehood and prevent crime WE are breaking the law ourselves by not being able to get on a sia course in this area.

We have switched off the cctv for it is against the thieves civil rights to film them. We no longer wear uniforms or drive marked dog vans because this is against the law under the present rules.

Yet that fool who is in charge of the country still goes on about law and order and wants the public to take an active role to this end. Does he realise that since these laws came into force 15000 small security firms have gone to the wall

It seems that there is one law for the just and one for the unjust

I wish now that I had never served my country.I also wish that I was young enough to get out of this once fine country

We have read of this evil crime against two fine ladies my thoughts are with them I hope these scum are cought and dealt with in a manner they will not forget easily

I will also be discussing with Tesco tomorrow, why there are no CCTV cameras in their car parks and plenty of uniformed security staff in the Store, but none in the car park ?

What responsibility do they have for the safety of their customers, 85% of which must be women ?

Nobody from Tescos came into the carpark and even offered my Wife a cup of tea.

They were aware of the incident, because the Police went to the front door first and were directed to the carpark.

Methinks the telephone will glow red hot. :good:

If they do have a responsibility for people on their premises can you sue them for negligence?

Just a thought.

Over to you mung.

BBC Watchdog is your best bet.

They will probably like the "why is there no security outside Tesco's stores or in the car parks" angle because of the large amount of cash point frauds (small cameras and cloning devices attached to the cashpoints) that all seem to end up on cash points outside Tesco / Supermarket stores. The High Streets are saturated with CCTV cameras and criminals appears to have moved away.
