Thunderbird
I saw the Evil Dead recently and spent most of it wetting myself laughing, though it is of course supposed to be a bit tongue in cheek anyway. I'm with Zapp on this, creepy and oppressive wins hands down over gore.
Yoggy
As far as "Creepy" goes I think the "Blair Witch project" was a good film, especially on the low budget it was shot on. It totally freaked the Mrs out, she wouldn`t go in the woods for months after!!!. We`ll watch creepy films but "Blood, guts, and gore just doesn`t interest us at all. Fisherman Mike
I like 'Salems Lot' starring James Mason & David Soul. It's an old film, but excellent. You can buy it on DVD from play.com for around £6.00. Well worth a watch. Yep I agree with that.... when old mason introduces " The Master" to that preist i nearly carped myself... I dont think any of the modern crop of Horror films post 80's are scarey...gory yes but not really chilling... The 1963 Classic "The Haunting" still gives me goos pimples when I watch it. as does "Poltergeist "
onefulham
Had a quick read through and I cannot see anyone has mentioned The Exorcist , I cannot believe that, it IS the scariest film ever in my humble opinion, a 70's film yet I don't think dated and a shocker on so many levels Edited August 22, 2012 by onefulham

Scully
Have to admit the Exorcist is the scariest film I've ever watched, and can't believe that as a young kid the Hammer House of Horror films scared me al.so;they seem so corny now. The Amityville Horror was a scary film also I thought, but the book scared me more.

AVB
Blood and gore films do nothing for me. They may be horrific yes but not scary. It's the ones that mess with your mind that give me the shivers.

Iggy
I like a good Brit horror - Creep, Descent, 28 days later etc. Also think some of the older classics are good, like the original Stepford Wives. Not particularly scary but unnerving nonetheless.
