ordnance
You don't need a crystal ball to forecast the obvious Maybe you know something i don't. The SDLP’s Declan O’Loan said the figures — showing just 7% of voters wanting to remove the border immediately and just 25% more backing moves towards a United Ireland in 20 years time— were “not at all surprising”. He said: “I don’t think the issue is any more dead here than it is in Scotland at the moment, but what it does mean is that the steps we have to take towards Irish unity must be of a practical character, particularly. With only 7% of Catholics surveyed suggesting they would vote to remove the border and less than half even countenancing the notion within 20 years, it is clear that our constitutional position has been settled. Zapp
Anyway, since this thread is about Scottish Independence and not about Irish reunification, let's get back on topic shall we?

ordnance
As i live in N Ireland i have a interest on what way Scottish independence if it happens will effect this part of the UK. I don't think its going of topic to talk about other regions of the UK that there is a debate on staying or leaving the UK. I think there is a ongoing debate in wales on the same issue. Laird Lugton
Don't hold your breath. Its also only a matter of time before we get hit by a asteroid but i won't lose any sleep over it. It is what it is at this time. Your crystal ball seems to be working better than mine at the moment. The last think the ROI wants to do is take us on they have enough problems of their own. Am only joking. I keep telling the wife that though and she says if there's a united Ireland then her mother will come over and move in with us. That shuts me up. Diceman
Denis Macshane tweets: Denis MacShane@DenisMacShane15 Oct So an indie Scotland would a) have Queen b ) The £ c) nukes d) BoE interest rates e) no border controls f) FCO g) Salmond. Isn't that Britain? And one of his readers writes "It's a bit like leaving home but still expecting your parents to do your washing" Edited October 22, 2012 by Diceman
Tim Kelly
If the sweaties get independance presumably any Scottish born MPs will have to leave our parliament. Sounds like a great way of protecting England and Wales from the likes of Gordon Brown in the future. Scotland will be bankrupt in a fortnight anyway. Virtually all employment is in the public sector, so funnily enough, they'll become unaffordable. Salmond is a buffoon.

four-wheel-drive
I think that all four countries should have there own Parliament to deal with all of the things that affect the people living there then you could have the UK government made up of representatives from all four countries to handle the larger issues defence tax etc etc.

If its to happen they should be self financing and only spend their tax revenues and not be supported....... but thats never going to happen Edited October 23, 2012 by al4x
Gimlet
I think that all four countries should have there own Parliament to deal with all of the things that affect the people living there then you could have the UK government made up of representatives from all four countries to handle the larger issues defence tax etc etc. Unfortunately Holyrood is proof that national parliaments are just expensive talking shops stuffed with B-list politicians, councillors and self-important town clerks. This is particularly so as Westminster commands little sovereignty while the UK remains in the EU. The last thing any of the nations of the UK need is more layers of expensive and ineffectual bureaucracy. Either break up the Union entirely or withdraw from the EU, restore National sovereignty with proper government ministries for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. National parliaments and assemblies are nods of appeasment towards Nationlists. They seem to stoke resentment and seperatism, seize up the process of government and consume vast amounts of cash that no-one has. Laird Lugton
I think we should stay just to give you Gordon Brown and his labour mates Looks as if the SNP is internally destroying themselves. Wee Eck's "all things to all people" approach isn't going down to well with his buddies, 2 MSP's have resigned over his u turn on staying in NATO. Only needs 1 more to resign and his majority is gone.....

If we were a huge continent of a country and different things happened in different areas then regional government works. We are way too small for all that and we simplay can't afford it. If there was no oil would old Fraggle Face be pushing independence... i think not. I loved it a few years ago when he said Scotland was in the "Arc of prosperity" between Ireland and Iceland................................. Fatty Prescott wanted us in the Broad Acres to have our own assembly, nort sure why. If it were a business would you put an extra layer of management in... nope of course not.
