NickB65
What do you use to protect your hearing while pigeon shooting or clay busting? Not sure whether to go for the in-ear or the over the head style. Seems the prices range from £3 for the disposable ones to £450 for the pro-moulded in-ear ones. adamskiseal
I have some moulded in ear ones done at my local boot's for about £100 you can choose the colour and they are very comfortable. Adam
Dekers
Just ordinary industrial foam type ear plugs, lots to chose from and a lot less than £3. Cans don't work for me, they always get in my way but others like them, and as you say some of the specialist moulded ear defenders cost a fortune! Each to their own and many will argue how much is your hearing worth!

Adam Hi are the ones you had done solid ear plugs or with the valve in them so you can hear people talk then bloke out noise when shot goes off? Cheers
Only1cliff
I use the Acu-life shooters aid ones think they are also called sonic 2. About £10 i think
Big Al
Industrial Foam plugs. You buy large quantities for not much ebay. They do muffle all sounds - not always good for hearing duck wing beats or human voices but they are an affordable form of hearing protection. Cant post a link but look in 2-3 pound bracket for best value. Saw 40 for £2 just now. Edited January 8, 2013 by Big Al

adamskiseal
They have valves in them, they are really good for the money, I had string attached to them also so they stay together!
welshwarrior
CENS now I have lost a lot of my hearing I know I don't want to loss more. I did not loss it through shooting either.

I went and ordered a set of ACS Custom sonic valves from my local boots, should be here next week
BRAD1927
Cens if you can afford it they allow sclear speech, improved hearing of wing beats etc and are tailor made to the individual. I have a set and have tried all the other variants mentioned and these are the pros/cons that I come across. 1. foam - uncomfortable and limited hearing ability but cheap. 2. headphone - electronic very good but bulky and can move when mounting the gun can vary drastically in cost and quality. 3. moulded - sonic or plugs both work well but sonic valves better can limit hearing start at about £50 up to £150 4 moulded cens - only negative is price!! Malik
Exactly what Dekers has said above. Cans dont work for me either... but its personal preference. Personally i use standard foam ear plugs. purely because they dont get in the way of anything and i am used to wearing them from when i go out on the bike. They're cheap and i can buy them pretty much anywhere, places like screwfix or any trade related place will have bulk buy. Only downside is, they limit noise, even the sounds you want to hear! which has already been said above

I am going to have to save some money up now and get some cens :(
Q West
I use sonic earplugs, cost aprox £10 and you can still hear people talking, the trap go off and bird song.

Dougy
Howard lights. They are about £50 off the bay and very good.
Cosd
I could t justify the price tag on the CENS active so I just ordered the CENS passive moulds. Exactly the same ear impressions and moulds only difference are the inserts. You have the option to upgrade to active inserts at a later date. Hopefully coming the next few days Cos

For Shotgun shooting & some Rifle i use the MSA Sordin Supreme Pro-X They are a fairly slim in profile, the quality of sound reproduction is amazing, i was using them all day Pheasant shooting yesterday and didnt bother me at all. Cosd
Got a call to say my CENS are ready for collection. Going to pick them up straight after work and i'll do a write up after a few sessions out. New toys, can't wait.... Cos
Cosd
Collected my CENS and very pleased with the quality. Can't wait to try them out. I will do a proper write up after I give them a proper test, but I'd just like to say what fantastic service I got from the audiologist I went to for the moulds and impressions. Very accommodating, friendly and professional service. The lady was excellent to deal with, very flexible to see her during the day or evening and explained the process well. She travels up to 50 miles to work or home but that would be more cost effective if you did a group fitting, else she's based in Whetstone. http://www.aid2hearing.co.uk/
thepasty
+1 on the industrial foam, cheap, comfy and they work. if I run out I have a cheap set of cans I got from B&Q.
CaptC
Emtec - Cheapish (£74 plus VAT) but what superb service - Impressions taken this Monday and they arrived yesterday! They fit comfortably but are hard to tell left from right. Excellent product.
bicykillgaz
My work bought us all some molded in ear ones from www.protecthear.co.uk (01507 604322) I take mine home for shooting and think they're great. Knowing my work they will have been cheap so may be worth giving them a bell to get a price.
