hedd-wyn
How many members on here have ever experienced a shooting related accident? Or even witnessed an injury caused by a firearm, shotgun or air rifle in the field, shooting rangeect? I can imagine this being a 'sore' subject and some would prefer not to discuss it, but I think It would be a great opportunity to raise awareness as well as a discussion about gun safety. This could go either way I know, but here goes. So if you have any stories/reports please 'fire away' Hedd Edited January 14, 2013 by hedd-wyn

Sergeant
Ive seen a few on my travels, On a clay shoot, I saw a novice being coached, the gun failed to fire student dismounted it then it went off in the general direction of downrange with the recoil throwing it on the floor. My friend was sitting out under a tree with his 12g loaded and closed when he took a phone call and left it laying across his lap. When it started to slide off he grabbed it and in doing so knocked the safety off while the pocket button on his trousers managed to catch the trigger firing it. He showed me the pattern in the tree, must have pooed himself a bit when that happened. Also seen the back wall of rifle ranges being hit on a few occasions. Tom. Imperfection
A guy i used to work for 20+ years ago shot me once with an airgun.I was behind a door and the plank shot at it from around 5ft away, but since it was a hollow door the pellet passed straight through and into my thigh. Not sure if you could class this as an accident because he did mean to shoot the door, but didnt realise i was on the otherside. and yes-it was jolly painful. Thunderbird
I received a rather sharp rap on the head by a piece of 'falling' shot when I was beating for a chap on who's land I normally shoot the other day. Usually one doesn't feel falling shot but this one had some momentum. I also took a ricochet in the shoulder once on the one and only occasion I ever tried PSG (not a fan). Same here mate, was deliberately shot with a 22 air rifle in my teens. The daft ****** shot me in the thigh from about 40 yards. Didn't penetrate the skin but it did bleed and I was dancing with pain!
Peskyfoxs
When I was about 12 some older kids used to hang around with airguns in the local waste ground, when I wasn't my mate held up a metal roses chocolate tin and was promptly shot through the thumb ... Looked very painful when I saw him the next day and it burrowed into the thumb nail

Big Mat
I can remember a guy at the gun club shooting the bench with a .22 rimmy. Ricochet hit a guy in the ****!
aga man
i was shot in the chest with a webley tempest .22 air pistol as a kid. it accidenctly discharged in someone,s hand at close range. it knocked me to the ground but luckily my thick body warmer stopped the pellet. i have been close to a .22 rimfire bullet {someone elses} which zipped through a hedge 20 yds from me the bullet had already passed through a rabbit. the sound of the bullet alone was scary. that as close as i like to get. thankfully no incidents as yet with the shotty. my dad drummed gun safety into me from a young age. worth reminding people that shotgun barrels blocked with snow can cause serious injurys aswell. pat g
A guy in the club that i was a member of way back in 1987 shot himself through the foot with an AR15 A2. Yip rested the muzzle on his foot, thinking the rifle was clear (mag out) but oh no :o. We were om a military range and luckily for him the ground was quite soft. 55grain full metal jacket round zipped straight through his foot and took out an inch of bone on the way . My brother and i were patching the targets at the time and heard a muffled crack. He very quickly went into shock after having thrown the rifle to one side. Bloody scary stuff mate and something i would'nt like to witness again i can tell you. A solitary lesson into how you can never take safety for granted and how it is of paramount importance ATB, Pat
archiebald
Ricoched .22 airgun pellet in the white of my left eye when I was about 12-13 it was removed and my eye recovered fully. Since then been so careful and wouldent wish that on my worst enemy!
Goodlittlebitch
My brother was shot in the eye by his friends older brother with an air pistol when he was 8 (12 years ago). Obviously he's now blind in that eye. The lad got hold of his dads pistol while he was at work and was running riot round the youth club with it when it happened. My brother still says to this day it wasn't the lads fault as he was a kid being a kid, and to certain extent I agree 100% that it was his dads fault for been a **** and leaving it lying around in te first place. Redgum
As kids we used to put on our levi jackets and jeans and shoot at each other, I had my jacket sleeve rolled up and had a pellet embedded in my arm. So stupid looking back, it could have easily been my eye. Which brings me to a local accident in which a friends son was involved in. My mate, his cousin and son were out trying to bag a pheasant, think the son was beating on the otherside of the hedge. A low flying bird flew along the hedge and the cousin took a shot, a pellet hit the younger lad in the eye, though it didnt pass through the eye it was deflected by the lens. Many operations later the lad has partial sight in the eye, lucky it wasnt closer.
hedd-wyn
Some shocking stories here. But most incidents seem to have happened when we were kids or teenagers :o
ordnance
There are a lot of posts on here making a good argument for needing a FAC for air rifles.
Footu
I was taken onto a range behind the Coldstream guards barracks by a firearms trainer for SO19 and protection squads. There were bullet holes all over the roof and walls, some right by the gun cleaning area. Back then it was glocks and mp5. I asked what they did to make them in these places and was told they were all accidental and those guys didn't make the squad!
