everycal
New to .22s. Run out of my first batch of ammo. Gun shop has two choices need to know what you lot think I should go for? Both are 40 grain hollow points. 1. Remmington 100 for £6.99 2. Eley 50 for £5 Thanks Luke
stumpy69
Try both and see what works best with your rifle. I find in my CZ 452 varmint .22 rifle Remington's work as well as anything so generally stick to them. Don't forget to re-zero after changing different brands! beanieboy
I too found the remington ammo went well in my CZ452 - when I first got the gun I thought Eley rounds were a bit tight to bolt in. I have now returned to the Eley and i think I was being slightly over cautious - they are a bit tight, but not too bad - thing is they are the most accurate round I have used to date - they also seem to hit harder than the remingtons. The lead heads of the remingtons seems quite hard and the hollow points are very small - as a result they tend to pass right through quite a bit, with poor expansion. Whitebridges
Big difference in prices there. Eley subs are very consistent and accurate in my gun. Remington don't do it at all might as well use a 4:
mad1
I used to run Winchester subs through my cz but i lost confidence in them as they started to shot gun so u changed to Remington and they are perfect ... Really consistent for me ? Edit: the remmy a are a fraction lighter and slower by about 15 ft/s but iv noticed no difference ... wymberley
Find an additional gun shop. A choice of two is somewhat limited. You could throw CCI, Winchester and SK into the equation. All of these additional three are widely available.
everycal
Thanks guys, would do but two nearest ones only have those. Both say shortage of other brands.
Imperfection
I found Remington 22lr ammo to be poo while Eley are superb.
moor man
Hi Luke, It all depends on what suits your gun, doesn't matter how hard it hits if its not accurate! My CZ likes remy subs. Good luck with the search

Vince Green
The prices of .22 ammo seems to vary from shop to shop. For target shooting I am using RWS Gecos at the moment and they work out at £2.95 a box.
Amazed
I am using aguila hp subs at 35 notes for 500 they are 38 grain but seem to be running ok accurate quiet hit like a train and not overly waxed.

Thanks. If you're in Huntingdon try Fenland Rural Sports in Warboys as they stock Winchester,Eley,CCI,Remington etc etc.Show them a BASC card and get 10% off list price. Dekers
You will get, and have already got many answers, and there will be differences of opinion as well. Remington Subs are appalling down here, I can guarantee some misfires in a box of 100, some supersonic and some just go phut. I don't rate Eley, used them all the time back in the target days, but their subs don't fly any better than many other brands in my 452 or Magtech 7022 semi, and they don't expand well either. Magtech ammo works for me, but has gone up a LOT in price over the last 2-3 years, so Winchester on the whole for me now, but the RWS work pretty well to. CCI subs did ok for me but chamber very tight generally. Just a few more observations!
beanieboy
Just to update from my previous post - I have now tried RWS and they are even more accurate in my 452 than Eley. Anyone else find that these go well?
