Dead-Eyed Duck Posted August 1, 2013 Report Share Posted August 1, 2013 If you zero at 50 yards, then you will find that there will be a c. 3" drop at 80 yards. This will depend on the scope/mount combo. Best thing is to put 0.5" dia spot targets on a card marked at 20/35/50/75 yards. Then take at least 3 shots at each. Download it and stick your data in. For WInchester super X's to get a 3cm kill zone (from 1.5cm low to 1.5cm high to 1.5cm low), I zero at 50m (55yards). It goes from 10m to 56.7m. kent Posted November 29, 2013 Report Share Posted November 29, 2013 Well a little depends on scope to bore height but 50yds, with subs you will be 6-8" low at 100yds from this BUT most importantly you will not suffer Over the top misses at peak trajectory (occurring before the bullet drops back in at 50yds) the further you push the zero out the more it pushes up the peak trajectory. This is the main reason why .22 ranges are normally 50 yards (later changed to mtrs for comp reasons) either way 5yds is neither here nor there and only a decent shot could see it on paper. The .22 LR with subs is very effective and easy to use out to 75 yds with this set zero as its easy to see that the target is further than 50 yds and then apply any hold progressively, forget about closer holding under / over just shoot unless its sat at the end of your barrel or a very small target area. Remember that once things get out into the country some wind will become as big or bigger issue than drop (FV 10mph 4" 100 yds) today you might need a full foot of wind up here, so 6" of no wind drop isn't going to be the issue!
