Friday saw us rained of , so full of beans to go out Saturday morning. We drove out to a wheat stubble which was cut on Thursday last week as we had seen birds coming to it when it was standing. When we arrived it had about twenty birds down on the far edge so we were a bit deflated then we noticed the tractor cutting the hedge and realised why the birds were not on the field. We drove down the field to the tractor and had a chat. He said he would be finished in twenty minutes and it had loads of birds on it in the rain on Friday. We went to look at another field and returned in about forty minutes later. Not a bird on the field so we watched it for another ten minutes nothing returned so we gave it up and drove on. We went to another farm who had cut his wheat in the week and had a look . We saw about ten birds come to the field and drop in so we decided to give it a go. We set up on the edge of a oak wood with tall trees at the back of us the wind was off our backs but none directly in front of us due to the trees . We set up with the normal twelve thawed birds ,ten on spikes and two on the magnet and had to put the pattern a good distance out from the wood so the birds would be in the wind . We always let the first bird commit to the decoys to see the reaction , it came in like a dream to the magnet and was despatched. Following birds started to flare at the pattern and we had to take in the magnet and revert to stand ups only . We were set up for 13.00 and finished at 18.00 and picked up one hundred and forty seven Pigeons and six Jackdaws
