Twistedsanity
Meindl dovre extremes , spend the money as you only have one pair of feet , handmade, no need to break them in etc.etc. , wore mine fishing, no idea how cold it got but my landing net was frozen stiff when I left , toasty warm feet after sitting on my backside for hours on end
rimfire4969
I have had a pair Salomon boots for about 3 years. I have found them very waterproof, comfy a good fit. My next buy will be another similar pair. http://www.cotswoldoutdoor.com/salomon-mens-quest-4d-gtx-boot-32110265?id_colour=122 Saying that I have just seen these at what seems a great price. http://www.cotswoldoutdoor.com/meindl-mens-burma-pro-gtx-boot-32110224?id_colour=143 Edited January 6, 2014 by rimfire4969
SSS
I've got Lowa Tibet Pro GTX and they are one of the best boots on the market. They're just fantastic, but at £250 they're slightly over budget. If you can spend this sort of money, you will get more than 1 trip up Ben Nevis with them. keg
Just bought a pair of Brasher Hillmaster GTX boots from Go Outdoors yesterday £108 , very lightweight boot compared to me previous Hi Tek ones and 1/2 sizes available . +1 for Brasher, on my second pair, wife loves hers too. If you are near Ambleside, John Gaynor Sports do a great fitting service.

lincs1963
Lowa, Scarpa or meindl for me. Lowa are my favourites. I wouldn't touch Brasher with a bargepole to be honest, Tried 2 pairs and neither lasted a day on the hill before the sole became detached. They are made in China and it shows. Wiggum
Thanks for the comments and recommendations chaps I'm going to call in somewhere and try a few different makes as I have quite wide feet also which doesn't help. I have had a look at some salomon boots but the reviews are pants all saying they leak?
chrisjpainter
Salomon boots are only worth a look if you've got narrow feet. Some do leak, but you shouldn't have that problem if you go for a goretex lined boot - which I'd recommend if you're in Scotland! Salomon's insole is also seriously comfortable. they do ones that are properly moulded and supportive in the right area, which you don't get on every make. Also, go with Vibram soles. the rubber is much more long lasting than companies' own brand rubbers. Asolos and Berghaus are particularly poor for this - great tops, but lousy soles without the Vibrams. Other than that it's about what's most comfortable to you. If you're a size 8 and a 10 is comfortable, go for the 10! Personal preference for me would be Scarpas (if they fitted my feet!), especially the ZG65. I used to work in an outdoor shop and we sold more of those than any other boot - and never had a return. Avoid The North Face like the plague, one happy day at work I sat on the floor and pulled one to bits to see how easy it was. The glue came away from the leather pieces and the stitching pulled out. It's not just the one type, either! They're just not in the same league as other brands! I wear Mammut boots, I have a comparatively wide foot, but a narrow heal, so those are all that fit me, but they are brilliant, so if you find some of the cheaper ones, I'd certainly look at them! All the best with the search
neil3728
I have a pair of north Face walking boots, I was told to always wear 2 pairs of socks, to stop blisters. Seems to work I have never had a problem with blisters no matter what terrain or distance I have walked.
alexl
Ive got some meindl dovre extreme cost £240 but well worth it. High boots with Vibram soles, gortex and fully waterproof. Another vote for these. Although I had to play about with how I lace them, when I first got them and went on a long walk my toes went completely numb and the top of my foot really got painful, wearing thick dedicated walking socks and changing my lacing method slightly seems to have sorted this now. Lovely and comfortable to wear waterproof, and quite smart looking when cleaned up.
Paddy Galore!
depends on the shape of your feet, i got mine from cotswolds, they checked and measured my feet and recommended a pair of scarpas, i still have them 4 yrs on and they are excellent, i'd advise you do similar and get something that really fits

cuffy
I have wide feet , brasher trailmasters fit ME there are different boots for different terrain , stiff soles for steeper/harder Spend some time sorting out the right footbed and insoles so the boots fit YOU After your purchase get out up some hills to make sure they fit YOU If you get sore feet , go back to shop and sort it out Quality boots that fit will last ages 2Bob boots will end up in the bin
wacker
brasher hillwalkers a little heavier than some but never leaked or blistered my feet and mine are about 5 year old now I had a pair of Brasher hill walkers that I have just put in the bin after 9 years sterling service! I replaced them with Brasher trail walkers, they are a bit lighter, a little bit wider and very comfortable. Go Outdoors have them up for £135, £120 with discount card. They do a price match, I found the same boot on Uttings website for £99 plus the give you another 10% off!

Loki
Hiya At the sort of money 'off the shelf walking boots' are now you may be better of paying probably less for a more bespoke option (that take account of an individuals feet particularities) - that provided by Alt-berg, in Richmond. A repair/sole replacement option is also available. My Alt-Bergs boots are now several years old and still fit for purpose. Friends also use their Alt-Bergs for stalking.
