FatherandSon
Well? Has anyone seen anything weird, strange or scary whilst out shooting day or night? I remember once I was shooting and a really bright light shone at me from the hillside about 30 yards away but there was nothing at all there! Archie-fox
Was out lamping about 6 months ago, part of my land that I shoot on used to be used to hang people and this one field is called " hanging ditch".. Didn't see anything strange but I did get a feeling of dread and impending doom when I was on one area of this field..after I left and was on another part of this farm I felt fine again...not really sure what it was but I felt totally helpless and almost sick...just had to turn round and walk out of that field... Dougy
Saw a woman taking a wee behind a hedge whilst I was rabbiting years ago. She had no idea anyone was around. Well funny.

figgy
Should have shouted at her before she was done. It would have been a whole lot funnier watching her trying to run away without peeing herself. Wicked. Figgy
Fisherman Mike
I saw a mist descend once from the top of a long wide valley in the Cotswolds about the size of half a footy pitch, it moved slowly over the land and then disappeared within about 30 mins.. It was a totally natural phenomenon but as it was illuminated by a full moon it looked really spooky. I also saw a flock of pigeons once too...that was really weird My shooting buddy Ian and I also caught a naked couple involved in coitus, in the lamp light one evening as well on the Marlborough Downs...trouble is they were a couple of woolly woofders... It is noteworthy that the word panic meant precisely that - the sensation of being startled and afraid whilst in the countryside. The Greek deity Pan, much like the Essex Mafia, got his jollies by scaring sheep. See E M Forster's "The Story of a Panic" LS

Sounds like my boss. She's prone to do that when we're out hunter gathering after dark.

islandgun
Funnily enough whilst waiting for the goose flight this afternoon/ evening i saw meteorite or something similar i can only describe it as a shooting star in daylight It only lasted about a second or two and I have never seen one before i also saw several 100 geese at about 200m distance which is less unusual Edited January 20, 2014 by islandgun
Blackpowder
Well? Has anyone seen anything weird, strange or scary whilst out shooting day or night? I remember once I was shooting and a really bright light shone at me from the hillside about 30 yards away but there was nothing at all there! Not by me and not when shooting but a very level headed friend saw a similair sight when solo camping in the Cheviots some 20 years ago. Nothing spectacular but the opposite hillside all lit up and he was familiar with lamping techniques and was certain that this was not the case, Blackpowder

hedd-wyn
I saw some strange moving lights changing direction amongst the stars last year whilst waiting for the sunrise. Were they aliens? Probably not, but very strange nevertheless.

Blunderbuss
Not whilst shooting, but I saw a Brocken Spectre whilst scrambling up Tryfan one day. Really cool natural phenomena where the cloud base is below you and the sun is above and behind. It cast a huge shadow of me on the cloud below with a massive golden halo around my head. I had messianic delusions for weeks afterwards, till my mum told me I was just a very naughty boy. FatFreddysCat
Out lamping one wild and windy night and saw a moonbow. Like a rainbow only silver. Has anyone else on here seen one? Yes. Seen it twice. Both times early morning before it got light a few days after full moon when the moon is still up but low in the sky at about 4am. Both times there was a fine drizzle coming down. fortune
Two things, At the end of a shooting day a group of us were standing in the farmyard having a chat about the day when I noticed what looked like a flaming ball of straw some way off up in the sky. It resembled what could be described as a sort of object that would have been fired from a medieval slingshot siege machine. We could actually see what looked like long flames licking away from behind it. I’d say that it was about five miles away and it kept a steady speed across the sky. A lot faster that a plane but not as fast as a shooting star and it was not at a high angle from the ground. There was no sound of an aeroplane and no nav lights or anything. In the background distance there was a jet going in the opposite direction and we could clearly see the body of this plane and the nav lights flashing. Suddenly the flaming ball just disappeared. No explanation of this one. The second one was what I imagine was a piece of space junk re-entering atmosphere. It travelled at a high angle from the ground and although travelling fairly fast was visible for about 10 seconds. During this time it changed colours from a bright white to red then blue then green and finally it sort of disintegrated into a shower of vary coloured bits of varying brightness that faded away. The main lump then sort of changed colour to a dull brick red and then was gone. I’ve never seen anything out of the ordinary other than this. No ghosts or black panthers but there is always tomorrow night.
daz2202
I was lamping the orchards one night when I got a strange glint of the beam through the trees. Walked the full length of the field and as I got closer I could see it was a red car. (I'm a good mile from any road). I walked up to the car and looked through the window to see some fella smashing the grannie out of his bird. They absolutely poo poo'd themselves as I was in dark clothing, black hat and a camo face veil on. I was also holding my weapon ha ha ha and I do mean my 223 for those with filthy minds.
