Davyo
There is a number of old men in my village that whenever you see them they are always in a collar and tie.My father inlaw was the same, even if he was sitting in the house or going round the allotment he'd be in a shirt and tie. I really think it is nice to see these old people take such pride in their appearance. When my son is 80,he will be walking down the street with his tracky tucked in his socks. pegasus bridge
My grandad always wore shirts, ties and 3 piece suits. I think spending his working life in a factory did it . I'm the other way around, I have to wear shirt and tie for work, but absolutely hate it at any other time, even weddings.
Zapp
My dad is the same, the only time he isnt in shirt and tie is when it is seriously hot.

Chris Bb
My dad is the same, the only time he isnt in shirt and tie is when it is seriously hot. Mine too. Me? I wear uniform to work, off duty it's jeans & sweatshirt. Only shave on working days or when stubble gets too irritable.
pontbeck
I've a old family photo on the beach at Tynemouth, my dad is in a deckchair enjoying the sun and sand complete in 3 piece suit and tie.
Fisherman Mike
When I was a lad we had a chap similar.. Used to walk from his home in the next village to the pub in ours and back four or five times a week always stopped and had a word with everyone he met...used to take him a bout 3 hours to walk about half a mile ! Well into his 80's...a veteran of two wars..always absolutely immaculate in a suit and tie and a shirt with a proper collar. The only time I can remember seeing my late Grandfather without a tie was when he was dying in Hospital.. Different generation..
Pheasant Feeder
My late father would always wear a suit and tie when going out on a weekend, usually to a WMC. I wear a uniform to work (now a polo shirt but used to be shirt and tie) so tend to wear shooting type 'scruffs' most of the time. I don't mind wearing a tie for any formal occasion including game shooting, but would never think of wearing a tie routinely as my daily wear. I must admit I instinctively have more respect for the older gentlemen who dress smartly just to collect their morning paper. Like many aspects of modern life I guess standards are slowly slipping. Some how septuagenarians in saggy ***** jeans just doesn't seem right.
shoot and be safe
There was an old boy in one of the local drinking establishments that always came in wearing his "de-mob" 3 piece. He always looked the business and was a pleasure to talk to. A proper gentleman (rip Harry)
Jay
I've a old family photo on the beach at Tynemouth, my dad is in a deckchair enjoying the sun and sand complete in 3 piece suit and tie. I have a picture of my dad wearing a suit and tie when we were camping in 1953. But remember in those days we did'nt have leisure clothes. pontbeck
My dad didn't have leisure wear. He bought 3 piece suits, his best was for formal occasions , the next one down for when he went out in the evening. His poorest for gardening . In the summer he may undo the waist coat and slacken the tie when in the garden
Archie-fox
Same for my dad, 8 years as a marine in Northern island in the mid 70s and 25 years in the police he is all ways in a shirt and tie and smart pants...he is all ways clean shaven and looking smart... It must be a age thing.. He's been retired a few years now but is still in a routine of shaving every morning and a splash of old spice then a clean shirt and tie.. Proper bloke!!!! woodcock11
You have made me think - I hardly ever wear shirt AND tie these days - the most times is if I am out shooting -and most of my fellow guns do as well. Is it some sort of latent respect to our quarry - I would like to think that it is. Anyone else feel the same
jasper3
dad used to come home from work…the 1st thing he did was polish his shoes…for the next day..he would then change and put on a smart shirt and trousers…. then go into the garden for 1 hour and dig..plant and do the general up keep he always said i looked like a tramp , his Garden and Car will always look smarter than what i ever could, good rest his soul
Tomcantwell
I have a 'work uniform' of tattersall shirt and brown jeans. I've got my own landscaping business and find it looks much smarter than the usual scruffy jeans and t shirt. I'm convinced it has helped me win contracts over older most established firms. I've done subcontracting and had to wear a t shirt, felt so untidy. Also all my shooting clothing is work wear, and I've claimed the tax back

rimfire4969
Great to see, we have one guy in the village who I guess is about 70 and wears a 3 piece suit everyday with a long 3/4 length coat in the colder weather, his shoes very well polished. Chatting with him he worked as a labourer before having his own building firm where he was hands on. Now retired to Cornwall he says he never had the money to dress smart but now he does he always wears a suit and tie. Mind my grandad never had money but always had a shirt and tie on even when digging the garden in the summer.
Mentalmac
I always used to laugh as a kid when my dad would come home from work (in the city) and would say "I'll be down in a minute, just getting changed into my comfy clothes" and would then put on smart trousers and a shirt... never knew why he didn't wear a t-shirt. Brought him a t-shirt once and he looked so wooden in it, was walking around funny and laughing haha.
ack-ack
My late grandfather was always very smart. I attribute this to his war years. He spoke with much fondness of his years in the Liebstandarte. Edited March 3, 2014 by ack-ack
