Dave-UK
Today i bought my first shotgun a Beretta 686e evo, or my wife did, anyway. It was a hard choice, but as i've fired on it felt great. My wife ordered there and then the same gun in 28" barrel My question is, would you expect some sort of freebie, we spent a lot of money there £1760 each and we got 2 of them, my wife asked if he would throw in a cleaning kit or a gun slip, and she was told promptly no, he did try and sell her a slip and told her they have some cheap cleaning kits. She was a bit miffed and said it's ok i'll buy the bits i want on the internet, she not shy my misses. Am i unreasonably asking for to much? Just read some comments on here about Churchills of Dereham Oops wish i read it first.
Rupert
Not unreasonable, but it business, the terms need negotiating before the money or order is placed. how di the price paid stack up against the other shops you went to?

It is common to throw in some carts with a new gun,but no shop has to,most who want you to remain their customers will do some deal or throw in the odd freebie, there are some out there that will offer nothing ever, and they wonder why people go elsewhere for other things.not all gun shops are the same, shop around
GRamsay
I would,ve thought they could have at the least threw in a couple of gun slips and a couple of boxes of cartidges, considering the amount of cash you have just paid him
fruity
Depends on the shop I suppose , I bought my 692 and outlander new from the same shop , had a free slip with semi and heavily discounted beretta slip and free cleaning kit with the 692 so more than happy
welshwarrior
Speaking to a friend who runs a large gun room if it takes more than 15 mins to sell a Silver Pigeon he makes no profit after taking of the staffs time etc
compo90
i recall buying my first ever gun, from an old gunsmith/shop in a rural location, i spent £100 on the gun, bought 25 cartridges and a cleaning kit........i didnt know you had to have a slip and was just going to walk out with the gun as was......he said "have you got a slip?" my reply was "no, i'm just going to put it in the boot and cover it with my coat to take it into the house!" he rooted around in the back and gave me an old gun slip to cover the gun with ....i asked "how much?" his reply was "you've spent enough today!" that was about 10 years ago

silver pigeon69
Speaking to a friend who runs a large gun room if it takes more than 15 mins to sell a Silver Pigeon he makes no profit after taking of the staffs time etc I find this hard to beleive. I spent about an hour buying my SP1 (the cheapest SP i think?) and although no discount on the gun, i did get a couple of boxs of carts and about £50 knocked of the £100 accesories bill! ( and surely a large gun room would get better wholesale prices than a smaller one??) The price was similar to other places as well.
silver pigeon69
I find this hard to believe. Unless he pays his staff a lot!! If his staff can sell a gun in under 15mins, they should be on a serious wage!
welshwarrior
When I questioned 15 mins his reply was booking the guns in, gunsmith is not doing clients work whilst he checks each gun and removes all storage grease then correctly lubes the action and ejectors. Salesman to man the gun room and sell the gun then he has to run gun through the till and print notifications and email buyers police force. Can't put up the prices as everyone compares on the internet Hopefully buyer buys slip or cartridges or vest etc and becomes a return customer. Don't forget other overheads rent alarms electric etc. Gunsmiths time is booked out at £50 per hour. welshwarrior
Don't get confused with second hand where the importer are not forcing a market price. But second hand from me and I'll nearly always do a deal normally a cheap or free shooting lesson etc. Edited April 26, 2014 by welshwarrior
kingo15
When I got my gun, got it at an old price instead of this years price. He even gave discount on a cleaning kit and carts even after id initially paid for the gun. Its a bit out of my way but seeing as I dont pay for fuel I still go back there for more bits and bobs. That kind of service goes a long way in my book. When I got my gun, got it at an old price instead of this years price. kiffy
i bought a new gun a couple of weeks ago.. rrp is £2100, i phoned a couple of local shops who both quoted £1810 phoned the third who quoted £1650.. if he can discount that much and still make money then the others must be making a LOT from a gun sale... i didnt even ask for a freebie with my new gun as i was more than happy with the deal i got on the other hand, one of the shops i rang has amazing customer service so if there hadnt been such a price difference id have gone to them.. but a while ago i bought a 870 pump action from someone on here and had it sent to that shop... £20 rfd fee to colelct which is fair enough and as the box it came in was **** and it had no slip they gave me a folding slip... not the best quality but was new and free
Hardwoods Green
Buyer beware of the cheapest price in my experience. Wholesalers will not be impressed by someone 'giving' their products away and effectively de valuing the brand. I always try to buy somewhere in the 'middle' but get good service aswell
Scottoj18
I got a new cz 452 16" barrel and got 150 rounds, gun slip, mod and a 10 round mag all for £500 and a 12kg bag of skinners dog food. Just ask for sumthing and a deal
parapilot
Cancel the order, say you found someone to chuck in a couple of slips FOC. See how fast he gets them out the store room. I'd never spend that much and not get something off, I'd walk away. I'd negotiate hard on one without mentioning the second. Then drop that for better deal after he's given his best on one!! It's a buyers market, shop around and get the best price.

decoy1979
I'd cancel the order, get my cash back and shop elsewhere, there are far better gun shops around.
Cannon
Hardwoods Green why would you be concerned about large brands being devalued by retailers selling cheap? If a retailer can make a profit out of selling a gun £400 less than another retailer, the additional £400 is quite obviously a rip-off. What you're saying is you'd rather pay more to keep these so called prestigious companies in the style and comfort that they have become accustomed to. It's money that's better off in your pocket.
