Doc Holliday
Ok guys, I'm going to get all blokey in this thread so be warned. I accept that there will be a certain amount of ridicule by the juvenile populous of the forum but, seeing as there will be more than a few out there, I dare say, who are thankful that at least one of us had the cojones to put this up here and be truthful, I'd appreciate it if we could try and keep this on a half sensible level at least, for those of us who are genuinely interested. I've notice of late that my old chap doesn't quite hit the degree of wood that it once did and so, in eagerness to keep things from flagging further, I've been looking online to see what is out there for such a thing. Now, I feel it's important to stress that rising to the occasion isn't the issue here, it's more a case of maintaining it, which is somewhat disconcerting especially when I still have a healthy level of drive for a man of my age (44). I don't want to go running to the Doc just yet so I was interested to know which of us have tried things to help improve their situation. Now, according to this website I came across - http://www.healthline.com/health-slideshow/natural-treatments-erectile-dysfunction#8 there are a few potential natural remedies. Just wondered if anyone has tried any of these and if there was any notable improvement. I did try Viagra about 18 or so years ago, not long after it came out over here, just to experience it and see what it was like. I managed to blag 4 tablets from the Doc who told me to take half a tablet at a time. Like I was going to listen to him. Anyway, I did, for about 30 seconds that night and then promptly swallowed the other half of the first tablet. Let's just say that the first 3 tablets did what they were supposed to (clearly not one after the other). The OH did ask why I was bright red in the face and told her what I had done. I don't remember her complaining too much about it. After taking the last tablet whole I ended up with the most excruciating migraine. I'd never had a migraine before and was always dubious about folk who complained about suffering from them but not after that. It was horrible. So, natural remedies will be the order here I think. I don't go much on acupuncture. I tried it a few times for tennis elbow but it didn't have any effect. So, that leaves Red Ginseng, Rhodiola Rosea, DHEA (which is something that Doc would probably need to test for I would imagine), L-Arginine (which, out of all of them, holds the most appeal for me seeing as it is a hormone based treatment and I take a few supplements which contain hormones, etc., for my workouts). I avoid a lot of soya based stuff as I had read that it can increase Estrogen levels in men. So, don't be shy, it affects more of us to some degree than most are willing to admit and I, for one. think sharing this information in a sensible way will be good for the wider community, not to say the other halves. LondonLuke
Peyronie may be worth a google, can affect all ages and can be caused by all sorts. Friend of mine has it from cycling a lot. I'm no doctor but know a few people who have/have had this Edited May 20, 2014 by LondonLuke
Brad93
Do you exercise much? Getting out and getting the heart going a few times a week will help no end. Edit: Just seen you workout, leave off the hormone boosters. Give it 6 weeks that should sort it out, introduce more cardio to your workout will help too. 39TDS
My missus has let herself go a bit, i find a bag over her head improves things. An empty Winalot bag is a good idea as you can put her arms through the handles to prevent it coming off during the vinegar strokes.
FalconFN
To be honest I would see a specialist, or at least a health professional first because self diagnosis from forums and Google will have you thinking you've got twisted ovaries or something tropical. On the other hand you could go on 'Embarrassing Bodies' and waggle it around in front of Dr Elf or Goblin, or whatever she's called.
grrclark
I so wan't to be juvenile and say stupid things, but i shall resist. Some things to consider before you start to experiment with supplements and additives or such like, are you carrying excess weight? Have you had your cholesterol levels checked? Is it just at certain times the problem occurs, i.e. if you are flying solo or in company? Do you drink a lot of caffeine based drinks? Do you suffer from tingling in your fingers or toes, or do they get colder easier? It is a regrettable part of ageing that certain bits no longer perform as they did in your youth, however if you think about what is actually happening it is a lot related to blood flow, and given that the blood vessels in that part of the anatomy are quite small in relation to that in your core trunk then any deterioration of your blood flow will become noticeable in certain areas first. Equally if you consume things regularly that increase blood flow, for example amphetamines, caffeine or other stimulants that can have a result on the non stimulated blood flow, the body gets used to having the stimulant so under performs without it. Pop down to the doc and have a chat, even if it is for nothing other than peace of mind and ruling out other factors. Well done for being brave enough to make the post too. Hahaha that made me laugh out loud The "goblin" doctor, that could make for a very interesting consultation, especially given the subject matter in hand (as it were) ............. Nial
I find when I knock off the grog for a week or two (not that that happens often) I seem to get a mad horny head on a lot more often! Doc Holliday
That's the thing, You'd expect Dr Pixie to be sex on legs but she just doesn't do it for me. I'm sure she's got a great personality and all that but... I think Dr Dawn does it for me more than Dr Pixie. My hat goes off to anyone brave enough to bare all on that show, it really does. As for my general health, I'm in the best shape since... well, ever. I'm 15 stone, 34" waist, I exercise regularly (Crossfit 4 times a week on average), my resting heart rate is 52 BPM, had my cholesterol check last week in fact and my HDL cholesterol is 1.1, my total Cholesterol is 4.6 (she did do my LDL but can't remember what this was, I did write it down and it was well under what it should be). My BMI is 24 but this only goes against the other information as they have my ideal weight as 13 stone or there about but I would look like a rake as I'm 6'3". I find when I knock off the grog for a week or two (not that that happens often) I seem to get a mad horny head on a lot more often! As Shakespeare said of drink "It provokes the desire, but it takes away the performance." Nial (45). Haven't touched a drop since 29/12/13. grrclark
That's obviously your problem, stopped drinking, healthier than you have ever been, but now you are struggling to go the full distance !!! I would get back on the pie and mash, wash it down with some real ale and shoot the crossfit machine !!!
Doc Holliday
I appreciate the 'fix you' advice guys, but I was hoping this wouldn't be just about me. Bry-M
are you smashing one off the wrist too often? lay off the self satisfaction a bit, see if desire increases. over-exercise can cause issues, crossfit is very intensive, are you getting enough rest/recovery? can't get a full blooded pump if you're fatigued. Pushkin
Go and speak to your Doc. Have you not seen all the adverts on TV about this same type of problems recently? It isn't just for old folks you know. Speak to a professional who knows what it is all about. Pushkin B)
kyska
I'm not one for giving medical advice over the net, or to friends other than my closest, but go see your doc, there are other things that can cause ED, you're a fit bloke by the sound of it, there is either a physical or psychological issue here, by default, a doc is the best person to speak to fella. Good luck Edited May 20, 2014 by kyska

For a moment there I thought you'd looked in to my soul. In all seriousness, no more than the next guy I'd say, unless the next guy is doing it two or three times a day then the answer would be no. I generally rest weekends except for Yoga on a Sunday morning. Yes, I do yoga. I guess you could say I was getting stiff in all the wrong places. I have also taken up Aikido again on a Thursday evening but that's not what I would class as a workout. So that limits my Crossfit sessions to no more than 4 times a week. Clangers are fine, no shrinkage. not that I've noticed leastways. Come on guys, don't let me stand alone out here! Swallow that male pride and tell us what, if anything, you've done to resolve any issue you may have had in the trouser dept.
JDog
Sorry Doc, you really are on your own. The rest of the PW massive are all virile, ready and able men. If I remember rightly, and in the event that a medical was refused, those were the conditions which had to be complied with when I joined PW. Thanks, that really helps with trying to get people to talk openly about an issue that affects a good few of us to a greater or lesser degree. I count myself as fortunate that it's to the lesser degree, unlike some that may be hiding in the closet or are in denial about it by posting unhelpful comments. I'd like to think this post was heading down a constructive route. Let's keep it that way, huh? Edited May 20, 2014 by Doc Holliday
Paddy Galore!
as I mentioned before really, boredom is the worst problem we've had to overcome, when it becomes more of a chore than a pleasure then it's time to mix it up a bit. I don't think it's anything medically related, I have just as many dirty thoughts about girls now as when I was sixteen. I do know a few couples who swing, but in my opinion it's not the best remedy for a long and happy marriage, and it's something that I wouldn't be happy doing. Doc Holliday
I know where you're coming from Paddy and yes, Mrs H & I have had our share of boredom as it can, and quite often does, become routine in a relationship/marriage, and could be part of the issue here. If I'm brutally honest, I have thought about other things whilst on the job and that helps to a degree. As I said in my OP, getting up isn't the issue. Maybe I need to trade Mrs H in for a younger model, or at very least take Blackpowder's advice and get a buxom young thing to rent a room
islandgun
Peyronie may be worth a google, can affect all ages and can be caused by all sorts. Friend of mine has it from cycling a lot. I'm no doctor but know a few people who have/have had this doubt it's that , My missus jumped on mine whilst practicing for the kamasutra olympics leaving a pronounced kink this has had little effect on my libido other than getting it out in public is no longer an option, luckily I am old ! I would think you should perhaps get some gentlemens reading literature, laying off any menage de un or any other number until you reach bursting point, then dive in after a couple of weeks, just a thought oh yes a good imagination doesn't hurt either
Paddy Galore!
ménage de un, that's a goodun the beast with one back is another, at our age putting one in the bank may not be such a good idea before a performance.
