JDog
I predict that this year will see the earliest harvest on record and the heaviest yields. Conditions have been conducive for sowing and growing and crops in this part of the world at least are much further forward than I have ever seen them. Those who plan their shooting forays around laid crops and the first harvest should fast forward their diaries.

ditchman
aye to that.........i predict that with all this rain and at the right time the sugarbeet will be the size of footballs....we have so much of it around here this year as the quotas have been relaxed i believe.....trouble is the tops are ploughed in virtually the next day....gone are the days when the sheep would graze them after they have been allowed to wilt.. now all i want to hear is the massive explosion of pigeon births, so we can all get back on track......... are any of you seeing any more birds about ?......... more predictions please

aga man
I spoke to a Farmer the other day and he had ££ signs in his eyes Joking aside crops here to are doing very well compared to last year and as a bonus for us shooters a lot of barley is getting knocked down in the heavy rain
Konnie
yes cereals well forward but don't forget it needs to come nice and sunny to make it turn.
motty
I predict some bumper bags at harvest time for many of us. There are many young birds now leaving the nests, which will provide us with some great sport over the coming months. I have seen some local wheat fields half laid since all the rain yesterday. Exciting times ahead!
goober
Barley well ahead here, was also shooting bunnies on cut grass last week or so and the clover is coming through like rhubarb!but no pigeons showing interest in it. Has been very quiet for pigeons but I'm hoping for a sudden boost in numbers once the corn ripens enough, fingers crossed.

rich1985
Rape is well forward too! The crop is the heavyest I've ever seen, it's going over on where I shoot. Rape in a good place to always get good bags on the field, does any 1 else find pigeons prefer certain fields to others? Over my boundry is ALOT of rape which could hinder me I feel. Beans is what I'm looking forward to! Can't wait! Happy days ahead for us all with a bit of luck! Barley flat in places could be good! NickB65
Our rape field was decimated by flea beetle this year with over half the field gone but what is left has shot up and is looking real good. What is interesting though is that the remainder of the field where the flea beetle was is full of small wild poppies and another wild flower I do not recognise which the pigeons love. My farther in law sent me a text picture of a flock lifting off the field over 300+ As they are on the wild flowers they are not that fussed but I can not wait for this weekend. rich1985
They love wild flower seeds, I've shot loads pigeons on set a side, you should do well with luck!

Been and had a look at three barley fields today , apart from gone down a bit more than last week there were still no sign of pigeon movement, the grain in the ears is still a week or more from being milky . One problem that could arise could be the amount gone down and the amount of food available all at the same time. Our peas have just got the first flowers on so they will be ready in about 4 weeks time roughly about 1st week in July , so there about the right time. I don't think we will see any corn combined till the end of June, but more likely early July at least, I might be wrong, I normally am, but one way or other it wont be long to wait now. Bobba
My farming friend thinks his yields will be good this year but is finding the market price unfathomable and frustrating. In March he forward sold some of his crops at £150 ton now down to £120. I just shoot for him. Glad I don't have his headaches.
NickB65
My farming friend thinks his yields will be good this year but is finding the market price unfathomable and frustrating. In March he forward sold some of his crops at £150 ton now down to £120. I just shoot for him. Glad I don't have his headaches. This kind of makes sense... in March we were not sure what the yield would be like hence the price being £150 / ton but now we know the yield will be high and availability of the crop hjgh so the price drops. The world price is also dropping with yields world wide looking good..... A farming prediction from the Cambridge Country Fare which made me laugh... "Farmers, no matter what prices they get they will never be happy....."
TDRsniper
I predict most of us will be on here in July, August and September bemoaning that there are still no pigeons about. If this pigeon drought continues much longer they will change the name of this site to Corvid Watch. Be Lucky

It was oak here so that should mean a splash so a nice summer?. Let's hope so!
