Hamster
I would avoid bottom end Tag myself, for that kind of money Tissot are a fair bet, superbly made and styles to suit broad tastes, if you could stretch a bit more then Longines would be my choice. LondonLuke
Whatever you buy, go for a company that makes watches rather than a fashion brand.
Brad93
Longines conquest. Mine is going strong. Gucci make nice watches with good movements

I've a Tag F1 that I bought for £900 6 yrs ago and I love it and it looks just as nice now (to me) as it did new and by the looks of it the can be picked up for around £500 now http://www.tagexchange.co.uk/Sold-Chronographs/TAG-HEUER-MENS-F1-CHRONOTIMER-CAC111D-2.html . Two years ago I bought a Breitling superocean abyss and tbh I ended up selling it as I wore the Tag more and it just didn't feel like it should have cost the 2k it did. byjovecarruthers
Tissot. Making Swiss watches since1853. Was once part of a merger with Omega and I believe the chap who started Tag Heuer learnt his trade with them. Best watch you'll get for the money you want to spend! hoggysreels
Ive a Seiko divers watch "automatic" ... very durable, though not as accurate at keeping time as the Longines time piece. For the price Seiko are very good.

birdsallpl
Do you want a classic time piece which will be an investment or a modern great big thing with loads of knobs and dials which will only depreciate? If the former let me know because I could probably advise you but not the latter as I know nothing about modern watches. However If you just want a watch that will keep excellent time and probably one you can wear in the shower go to Argos and spend about £40. It will do the job for a few years. But as you may have guessed, I would recommend if you want to spend £500 go for a classic mechanical automatic. It won't keep such good time as the £40 electronic Argos job but it will be nice to wear and money in the bank. (If you buy sensibly) Hope that helps Edited June 7, 2014 by birdsallpl
Longchalk
Amazon deals usually have a lot of big name brands at decent prices http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=amb_link_159512387_3?ie=UTF8&rh=n%3A328228011%2Cp_n_target_audience_browse-bin%3A199495031%2Cp_8%3A20-&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=left-1&pf_rd_r=1943SHJQX1QZ6RTJGW1P&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=474606307&pf_rd_i=667357031

lees
Have a look at Hamilton, they make some nice watches, very happy with mine. They are a proper watch company not one of the many fashion brands out there.
MirokuMK70
As above Hamilton Khaki - absolute classic and these days made in the same factory as Omega's You'll get one for 380 quid.... Edited June 7, 2014 by MirokuMK70
mickeylove
I got a second hand omega seamaster for about £400, best watch I ever had, keeps way better time than my mates rolex.
jgguinness
For that kind of money I would say a new TW Steel. Nice watches. Alternatively look for a decent second hand watch. I bought an Omega Seamaster new 11 years ago. I think the price then was £1050. Now if you were to buy it new it's £2500. It's an automatic and keeps very good time considering its mechanical and used every day. Jonathan
evo
have a look at these,,you wont even need ya glasses to read the time or better still this beauty, this will look good to pose with on your wrist atb Evo
rimfire4969
Personally I would find myself a classic watch that will hold its value or increase. I have an Omega i bought about 5 years ago and could sell it now for the same money if not more, its a great watch and i wear it everyday during work and play.
