norfolk dumpling
Shooting got more pluses than RSPB but BBC tone "blasting wildlife out of the sky.." or similar not nice. When discussing Henson's sheep and culling those with foot rot they didn't say they were going to blow its brains out or scramble them with 500 volts. David BASC
More information and a copy of the report, which the Countryfile article was based upon, together with a short film from BASC and be found here: http://basc.org.uk/the-value-of-shooting/ David

AlistairB
Have your say here, seems the 'yes' vote is currently outweighing the 'no' AB http://www.countryfile.com/poll/does-shooting-do-more-harm-good-environment
YorkshireShooter
Its a step in the right direction on the BBC's part, would have been good to acknowledge projects such as The Langholm Project run (in part) by the GWCT, SNH, Buccleuhs etc. I think that would show, quite comprehensively, what benefits keepered land can bring. Also, some view points from different stakeholders on the socio-economic stance of shooting could have been beneficial, I think people need to understand just how accessible it is! B725
How many are there on here alone should we all not vote? Could BASC or the CA etc not email a link to all its members Edited July 7, 2014 by B725

Scully
Currently at 90% in the yes camp! We're winning by a mile! I'm not attempting to hi-jack this thread, but on the same site there is also a poll asking: 'Do you think angling is a cruel sport?' for those who may have an interest. Penelope
Course angling, crueller than shooting, if that is the right word. I'm also an angler, if a little lapsed. If you get the the chance read the last chapter (in fact read the whole book) by Colin Willock, 'Landscape with a Solitary Figure'. norfolk dumpling
There's no doubt angling particularly coarse, is more rule than shooting but these are all country sports and we should not knock any of them but stand together. The no of anglers is 4-5 times shooters so we must keep them onside.
Lampwick
The vote has moved to 70/30!!! Ie those against shooting are gaining support. Get voting if you haven't already and pass it on. Cheers
Scully
Some of the comments on the poll site are hilarious; so many uninformed people (deliberately?) who have no real answer nor knowledge of what they speak so resort to name calling and comparing shooters to 'murderers' and child killers. Amazing.
Penelope
I agree, but try convincing a lot of course anglers. They think they do no harm because they don't kill. I have had the argument many times. Well said Edited July 8, 2014 by Penelope

Penelope
Yes it is, one of my all time favourite writers on shooting related matters. Town Gun (Willock), BB & Country Gun (Humphreys) were always the first read in the shooting times. This is the book. http://www.tidelinebooks.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=73&products_id=289 The last chapter is about the morals and ethics of hunting, and is as valid today as when written. Aaz
Aside from the poll, I think the guys on that program could've done with some tips on gun handling - bringing the barrels up to close on the stock
