BBC tone "blasting wildlife out of the sky.." or similar not nice. When discussing Henson's sheep and culling those with foot rot they didn't say they were going to blow its brains out or scramble them with 500 volts.

Indeed, may be a few letters of complaint might be the course

Its a step in the right direction on the BBC's part, would have been good to acknowledge projects such as The Langholm Project run (in part) by the GWCT, SNH, Buccleuhs etc. I think that would show, quite comprehensively, what benefits keepered land can bring. Also, some view points from different stakeholders on the socio-economic stance of shooting could have been beneficial, I think people need to understand just how accessible it is!

Course angling, crueller than shooting, if that is the right word. I'm also an angler, if a little lapsed.

If you get the the chance read the last chapter (in fact read the whole book) by Colin Willock, 'Landscape with a Solitary Figure'.

I'm not attempting to hi-jack this thread, but on the same site there is also a poll asking: 'Do you think angling is a cruel sport?' for those who may have an interest.

Is that the Colin Willock that wrote as Town Gun in Shooting Times?

Yes it is, one of my all time favourite writers on shooting related matters. Town Gun (Willock), BB & Country Gun (Humphreys) were always the first read in the shooting times.

This is the book.

The last chapter is about the morals and ethics of hunting, and is as valid today as when written.

Thanks, I'll see if I can hunt it down at the library. I always read Gough Thomas first, but I'm a sad techno junkie.
