Crows with Peter

Invited Peter Hoggyreels down for a bit of crow decoying. He arrived bang on time about 5 we had a coffee and a chat before we set off shooting.

He said he had not done much shooting or very little crow decoying. We chucked in his gear into my truck and set off for farm.

Took about 1/2 hour to get there nothing on the field ,got our kit out and set up by a nice high hedge.

I stuck out the deeks as the OLD boy was still setting hide  2 OLD guys together

We had a coffee and chat about how we where going to shoot etc. I had a few smokes while Peter puffed on his electric gadget

Told him we would leave birds coming for a 1/2 hour which they did before we opened up.

We had some good shooting birds coming in nicely for a couple of hours then dried up. Few coming in slowly after that. :sad1:

They had decided to hit a corn field about 1/2 mile further down. :sad1: Pete had plenty of banging shooting some good birds fair play.

We had a good laugh chatting between shooting. Think Peter enjoyed himself as his bags before had been around the 4 mark.

We packed up both knackered after hurdling them rows of blinking straw. and picking up deeks and dead crows.

Picked up 83 mixed with about 10 over hedge or in hedge to tired to walk and fetch them. Drove back to my place showing Pete some of my permissions on route . Had a cuppa and chat Peter happy bunny said our fair wells peter on way home to the Wirrel. anything i mist he can add

well done the pair of you,

just a question, what is the reasoning behind leaving the birds for the first half hour, you obviously know your stuff but keen to always learn, as I have to shoot rooks on drilled barley in our area,as they do quite a bit of damage.

Back home, tired lol

As Terry mentioned, the most crows l've had in a single session is about 4 ... today was an eye opener ...but the biggest pleasure wasn't the fantastic number of crows, though dont get me wrong, l thoroughly enjoyed being "given the chance" .. "But" meeting and spending the day with Terry, out on the farm, was the icing on the cake. ... lm not purposely talking someone up that happened to kindly take me shooting!! ... "this geezer know his stuff" .. simple as that! ... he's a very patient man, he gives advice, l forget to follow, he calmly reminds you again, and again and so on ... an absolute gentleman and as funny as fo#k ... he's had me in stitches. "Reminds me of evo in some ways" ... l can only imagine those two together lol

I would like to say thank you Terry, and lm sure you know l sincerely mean it mate ... a wonderful day all round.

l couldn't believe the amount of crows that came in within minutes of settling down behind the hides. And the tips Terry gave me certainly increased the number l got .... though l struggled on the double Jackdaws lol .. though Terry nailed the doubles ... wonderful day, cheers Terry, yea a good'un mate

Cheers Chaps :good: Thanks for your kind comments. :good: Great morning out fair play. As i'm usually on my tod so nice to have company for a change.

As Peter said we had some fun ,all the lads that have been here shooting or met in shows know i'm a nut case  love a good laugh.

Sure to have a few more PW lads here shooting over coming years no doubt. Find it funny shooting with someone,as i'm a see it shoot it type, not used to waiting for someone to shoot or not.

Few birds today had 60grams of lead instead of 30g  but we enjoyed it. atb Terry

Hi Bud I don't always leave it half hour, this morning mates farm house was only 150 yards away not that he would mind. So farms that i don't shoot very often i like to see where crows are coming off the roost etc. Where they fly in from as then might move my hide next time i go there. Another reason letting the crows coming cawing like mad gets other in the area to start coming my way better than blowing a blinking crow caller .This morning some where landing within feet of us and flying 10 ft high over us Pete wanted to put a bayonet on his gun :lol::lol: . He had a job not letting fly  but he lissened  atb Terry
