Short version.

Bought a music streamer from them (re-furbished) 11 months ago

Switched it on the other morning - dead

Had it apart when I got in from work, no internal fuse or anything 'fixable'

Put it back together and went on-line to remind myself when I bought and what warranty, if any it had.

Turns out it was under a year and despite being not new it was still under warranty

Went on-line and clicked the 'ring me' button, the phone rang immediately

Walked through what had happened, and was asked if I wouldn't mind boxing it up so someone could collect it the next day

I pointed I didn't have the original box and packing and also that no one would be in the next day, so she said 'how about in a couple of hours time then?'

A couple of hours later a courier arrived to take it away.

This morning I checked my account and they have refunded 100% of the original purchase price, and none of that above cost me a penny.

I know we are supposed to hate them for killing off the high street and not paying taxes etc but with service that slick I am finding it hard to do so.

Bet you didn't tell them you had the back off!

Your right I've never had a bad time from them.

Compared to Argos ( sorry thats exempt from our 28 day return as its electric.!! )who I used to go to to avoid Currys, .

That was on the other hand exceptional service.

Ah well there goes the high street.

John.

Always found with Argos that if there are any problems with electrical/electronic items they change it unconditionally. I was told; rightly or wrongly they do this because they have no technical types to argue the toss. Waiting for a manufacturers/importers report puts them to a lot of hassle so they change it. ??? No doubt in turn they will get a replacement from their supplier(s)...........buying power ?

that is good service, the only firm that I've dealt with that was on a par with that is Festool. what device did you have by the way? I've got a Samsung unit and it's a pain in the backside. sounds great when I can get it working, but can't seem to get music to stream through from my phone app, only radio seems to work or music stored on my phone.

Amazon are excellent - British retailers can learn a thing or two from them. It has certainly made me think about how I do business. Treat your customers like you would want you want to be treated. Take losses on the chin, you will make it back through loyalty and good word of mouth.

I have even bought from amazon in the US (while in the US and delivered there) and they honoured the warranty in the UK. Admittedly it was a kindle product and a manufacturing fault - but they could have told me to return it to the US, instead they gave me a full credit to buy a new one here, and told me to bin the old one.

I have just joined Amazon prime, and intend on making use of it!

I use Amazon a lot, I'd rather pay a little more to buy off them than ebygum bay for the piece of mind.

Great service and good fast delivery couriers.

Don't think they are killing the high street, poor shop service and bad staff seem to be doing that for themselves.

I ordered something from Amazon a few months ago. It said it would be with me by 1300hrs on Saturday. Saturday morning came and I got a text saying it would be with me at 1400hrs. Now this doesn't sound that terrible but the Mrs had a table booked at a restaurants for 1330hrs so I went online and moaned at them. They refunded the postage and got hold of the courier to give him instructions to leave the parcel near the back door and don't bother about a signature. I thought that was cracking customer service. Much better than the high street.

Similar story - I had an Amazon delivery driver (free delivery, not next day or anything) ring my bell at 8am on a Sunday morning. All fine and well, but 8am - Sunday - Seriously! I moaned at them and they agreed - it was out of order and gave me a free next day delivery as an apology.

With Amazon prime, if you order Sunday, they will dispatch same day and you have it Monday. They are re-defining online customer service.

The only bricks and mortar retail store that comes close to this is Costco (as it happens, also an American company). M&S are to a certain extent too, but the quality of their merchandise has gone down. John Lewis aren't too bad either.

John Lewis online made a mahoooosive balls up on an order I placed for my sons birthday. I'd never shopped there before and the shop were so apologetic for the online cock up they gave me £50 off what I was buying, a free Xbox game for my lad (£35), £25 voucher for my time/petrol and then after some phone calls to their complaints manager a further £50 voucher. They tried to blame me for the cock up so after she looked into it I got a proper apology.

I was very impressed with John Lewis and how they dealt with the whole thing after the mistake and I would still shop with them.
