Edit to add: I wonder if the Jeremy Vine show would be interested in picking this up as a debate on his show, it has all the right ingredients. An arrogant councillor, ex military, polarised opinions of pro/anti shooting, a ridiculously insensitive social media comment. It sounds perfect for the show to be honest.

Excellent idea. In the radio interview he stated that he was opposed to killing 'full stop', but obviously not if he can profit from it...unless he's selling his full english breakfasts at cost of course. :)

I would say Peskyfoxs that you have absolutely focussed your energies in the right way and more power to your elbow for doing so.

I think that is a much better option than writing nonsense in trip advisor, even if it does feel good for a wee minute or two.

I would imagine his views are very liberal, just like the party he represents. I don't expect that he would fit in well with a lot of our off topic discussions !!

Have to agree on the TripAdvisor thing, entertaining as it is, the last thing we need is to make a victim out of this guy.

You just know that he'd start spouting all manner of nonsense about this group of fascist, gun toting lunatics trying to ruin him for standing up for what he believes in. It'd probably get half a page in the Mirror.

We've had the moral high ground from the outset and should retain it.

I'm puzzled with your question. What has the Liberal party policies on animal welfare got to do with my post?

You said

" I would imagine his views are very liberal, just like the party he represents. I don't expect that he would fit in well with a lot of our off topic discussions !!"

My point was that (purely in my opinion of course) neither Mr. Woodward's views or those of the party that he represents could be taken to be Liberal in the sense most people understand the word.

What I said was in response to the question "I wonder what his views are on immigration?"

For what it is worth I always find it fairly ironic when anybody who labels themselves as a Liberal take a very polarised stance in relation to someone else's views.

Re-read the first paragraph of your post #167

I'm even more puzzled by your comment. What on earth does what I said in post #167 have to do with tomov's question to me?

tomov quoted my response to Malkiserow's question of "I wonder what his views are on immigration?"

tomov then went on to ask me if I missed the Liberal party's policy on animals, hence me being puzzled.

What you are going on about I have not a clue ???

You advised in your post #167 suggesting "write to his political party as he represents them by association"

Tomov wrote "did you miss this bit" with a link to a Liberal party policy statement on animal welfare.

You responded to Tomov that "you were puzzled" and "what has Liberal party policy on animal welfare got to do with your post?"

What would be Gained by writing to Mr Woodwards party if their take on shooting was as in their policy statement?

Panoma, I am still baffled. You are taking two of my posts both totally out of context and combining them.

For clarity, #167 was in reference to how we could maybe be better engaged in getting Woodward into discussion as opposed to people leaving false reviews on trip advisor.

The post that tomov quoted was a reply to a question about views on immigration by Malkiserow. The two posts do not cross, they are about two totally different things and in response to two different posters.

Now to try and respond to you in context, I appreciate that the Liberal party share Cllr Woodward's opinion on shooting, however given his particularly unpleasant comments regarding the suicide of Mr Ellis, in which he tried to use his views on shooting to justify those comments, it might be reasonable to challenge his party to see if they believe that his comments regarding Mr Ellis are indeed representative of their own.

Also given that Cllr Woodward has a track record of courting media coverage after making crass and offensive comments it might be that he would relish the opportunity for a further discussion. That was the point of my response to Peskyfoxs.

I hope that cleared things up :)

I cannot see him getting away with it , his council should insist he makes a grovelling apology in front of the media and then remove him from his position on the council

Just read this and a few people have the same view as Fenboy so I thought I'd point out as an elected member of the council he cannot be 'fired' as it were

The public services ombudsman is where you need to direct your complaints, they have real power v's his position

The local voters have the real power, I hope they are reminded of what sort of creature councillor Woodward is come election time. I think this will have real resonance with ordinary people, not just shooters. Most people know someone who has suffered stress or depression when in financial dire straits. The fact Alan Bacup was also a shooter, a family man, an ex soldier etc make it easier for me and many of us to relate to him. There but for the grace of God. When that stress or depression ends in the tragedy of suicide, most people feel sadness and empathy for the bereaved family. Clearly this oxygen thief lacks that basic humanity and prefers to gloat. I hope and trust his days in local politics will soon be at an end.

I think we are in violent agreement - I (like others it seems) didn't realise that your original post was only in relation to Malkiserow's question.

Curious, my comment is under the wee quote box with Malk's question it, maybe it doesn't appear on every browser type ???

Yes we do agree on the hypocrisy of 'Liberal' people being very un-liberal with some of their opinions. A bit like socialists belief in social democracy goes right out the window when it may involve people who have more than them being treated the same, but that is a discussion for another thread :)
