Lord Geordie
Few year back I found a pile of garden trimmings. In there was a stick with a junction on the top. It seemed like a good idea to rescue it, and bring it home! It sat for around 20 month in the cupboard, before I decided to do something with it. Out came the chisels and I made a start. I started to remove the excess material from around the cuts and started to shape the beak. Then I had to even off the sides, this is where the spoke shave came into play! After evening off both sides as best as I could, I carried on with shaping, and profiling. I got to this point, and here is will stay untill I get round to doing a little more! Gordon R
You already have more talent than me. Good luck with the rest. It would be nice to see pictures as it progresses.

malkiserow
Coming along nicely, it is great to find a piece of wood or stick and "see" what it can be ..... wait for it to dry then bring it to life with hand tools

Lord Geordie
Looking good. Is that Hazel? Def not hazel, It's a common tree with multiple narrow leaves on each stalk. The growth rate is quite quick so not normally good for much. I just thought due to the shape it would make a project!

Lord Geordie
Are you going to carve the finer details or paint them on? Not sure yet! Will need a little more work to get it down to a nice blank. Then I will see if I will carve or paint it!.

Lord Geordie
Moving on a little. Set about smoothing off the surface and finding a balance across both sides! Then I marked out for some more carving. This time carving the detail. I will now have to wait until my carving set turns up. Found a set for £3 on the internet. Then when it arrives I can get started. Edited February 24, 2015 by Lord Geordie
The Mighty Prawn
Cracking that LG, I bought myself a carving kit only to discover I had neither patience not talent for it so I admire anyone with either but you have both - keep on posting the updates!
