Cambsman
Currently only getting about 2 hours from a fully charged battery (12v 7Ah) with the rotary. This is with very light Hypaflaps. Get even less with dead birds. The arms are very stiff to turn without the battery attached. Is this normal or do I have a faulty unit? Any thoughts? Ta! wymberley
If you give the model, someone who also has one might be able to give you a steer.
sitsinhedges
If it's a wiper motor type it works on a worm reduction and you shouldn't be able to work it in reverse by pushing the arms easily. I get about 2hrs with my 7 amp batteries with hypaflaps too. Edited February 20, 2015 by sitsinhedges
Cosd
Every magnet will have a different amp draw, if you can get someone to check yours, then you will be able to work out how long yours should last with your battery. Example If a magnet draws say 2amps per hour, then using a 6ah battery means it will run for 3 hours. You bog standard magnets will draw anything between 2 and 3 amps per hour. The other consideration is that batteries will deteriorate, so it could be that your battery is not fully efficient.
Cambsman
Sounds like a couple of hours is about right then. Thought I might get more as getting fed up of carting lots of kit and extra batteries about! Thanks.
Bobba
If hard to turn would deteriorating bearings be an issue?

DRWC
I also got fed up of carrying loads of batteries to keep my normal whirler going, so got a pinewood one which was pricey but is fine with a 7ah battery all day

ayano3
Mine come from Whittlesey gun room and will run well over a day on a 7ah battery if fully charged. Think it was about £75 when I bought it.
Billy.
If you have the means to charge a Lipo, you can get four hours from a 5ah 3S lipo and it's about half the size of a lead acid moped one. LPJA
I got some used 17Ah 12v if your want to try one, PM me. I get around 3- 4 hours out of one on a 3 arm mega magnet
WelshMike
If it is cold you will get reduced capacity, if the battery is old and has been cycled a lot to a deep depth of discharge before recharge you will get reduced capacity. As mentioned these batteries are cheap and therefore have a limited lifespan.
