JDog
In an attempt to remain sane I had to leave the young decorators to their inane banter about breasts and g-spots. I may or may not have been able to join in their conversation but I felt that a little discretion was called for so I opted out. Radio 1 blaring out in two different rooms made up my mind. Dogs in, kit in, and off I jolly well went to try to find a few pigeons. Oh yes, and sufficient cartridges to repel the perceived enemies at Rorke's Drift. Most of the drillings have been done for at least two weeks round here so it looked like rape would be the only crop of interest. I saw a few heading into one particular field and I made several enquiries before I found the name and address of the farmer who readily gave me consent to shoot what was a bare patch in the corner of a field. This patch was obviously eaten by pheasants and partridges last autumn and pigeons could not be blamed at least initially for the lack of rape plants. With no real birds I started with fifteen flock coated decoys and soon got two for the rotary. In the hour and a half I was out shooting I could see a much better line but I did pull a few birds in and ended up with 23 pigeons and a carrion crow, tantalisingly close to the random target set for me by steveyg. One picture shows the significant bird, my first in this county, and the other shows what is a considerable patch of ground without a single rape plant. pigeon controller
So with the move and old age you still remember how to do it and hit the "Sweet Spot" and break your duck in Lincolnshire . Well done and good luck in the future. Did you wear your hat ?? As I've not seen reports of U.F.Os. In the county? Or was it too hot and you had to wear your " Pith Helmet "

Fisherman Mike
Just to make you feel a little better I had to go to Stow yesterday and drove the A424 from Burford there was a strong line of birds flighting over Gawcombe woods towards Little Rissington...I did a detour on the way back and found 2 or 3 hundred on some late drilled bean or peas... Not a sign of any shooters... Perhaps they have all moved up to the flatlands
