Florida gun range

Going over in August and this time I want to go to a shooting range to try some of the guns we aren't trusted with!

Had anyone been to Machine Gun America? It looks like a relatively new place but the reviews seem quite positive.

Any other suggestions and advice about how to book etc if other ranges are better?

I went to Orlando Gun Club last month with the old man and had a great time shooting an AK 47 and Glock 21 in .45 auto. Found the staff friendly even though it was busy and the ammo prices were reasonable. They had a massive rental wall full of every type of firearm including full auto MP5s and Uzis.

We just turned up on the day and eventually did some shooting after drooling at the hardware in the shop!

As long as you have been admitted lawfully to the US under the visa waiver scheme (UK residents) then it is perfectly lawful, if you have a non immigrant visa then you need to have a hunting permit.

I'm glad they do allow it as I had great fun, but am now hungry for more! Will have to find somewhere closer to home that allow pistols.

These gun ranges in the US are a bit of a strange situation, they clearly exist and are very good but under US Federal Law 'aliens' (thats you and me) are not supposed to have access to firearms. Still, if they are clearly not bothered why should we be?

That is unconstitutional that's why.

There are numerous CF pistol clubs in the UK on the Channel Islands and the Isle of man I believe.

We have been discussing going to the states on a gun club holiday for some time, but not sure if it will ever come off. Would be fun.

Don't forget us. :) You can shoot CF pistols here, but reading some earlier posts on another subject if it was up to some on this forum we wouldn't be able to either.

Do you have any clubs where you can just turn up, rent a pistol and shoot

The short answer is no. The same question was asked on another forum, this is one of the replies it might give you a few ideas.

I have been to Ballymena RPC. After a few emails I went up one night midweek while across there on business. Was made most welcome and given a variety of pistols and revolvers to shoot. Once they knew what I was doing, they let me get on with it with minimal supervision.

Great facilities too! Several ranges, IPSC set up and a great club house.

Very very nice ordnance, Ordnance. smile.gif.pagespeed.ce.SyBx1US-TX.gif See what I did there?

Is the 686 a Westlake or Wilson customisation? Or some other company? I have no idea if Westlake Engineering is still on the go or whether the mainland ban finished it.

I am not sure, I have shot at that range and did see that revolver. As you say a customised 686 not sure who by.

+1 for the recommendation of Orlando Gun Club, did some shooting there in October, great fun, friendly staff and prices were reasonable. Another one I've used several times before is East Orange Shooting Sports in Winter Park Fl, not too far out but they were also friendly and helpful. Wasn't struck by Oak Ridge, not sure I'd go back, maybe I hit them on an off day but wasn't for me.

Things to bear in mind, no sandals or flip-flops. Closed toe shoes only. Wear a decent T-Shirt, not a vest. Take ID such as a passport or driving licence. You need to be over 21 or with a guardian, you'll need to sign a disclaimer. Also, some places will require a minimum of 2 shooters in a party to buddy up. RO stuff is much the same as UK only they tend to be a tad more relaxed about it. Other than that, just have fun. I have at least 2 or 3 range visits every time we go to Florida and never regret it :)

as I was in LA monday, I found a range, signed in with them, filled in some online paperwork, as was handed a 9mm Glock, a slab of cartridges and a target, with the words "enjoy yourself"

I had shown a copy of my UK FAC it seemed to help.

ok you needed to be in a party of 2, the wife had to sign in too, she could have shot but wasnt bothered,

total cost about £40, and I need more practice,

  • 1 month later...

Well I've been to the Machine Gun America range today, took my nephew and we had a great time! Shot a glock, an mp5, m4, ak47 and Mossberg pump action :-)

Probably not the cheapest way to try out different guns but it's aimed at tourists like myself who don't get the opportunity at home rather than locals who would use a local range but i had a brilliant time and nephew loved it!

Sorry it's over and done now but also quite happy I'm not able to do it at home as I would go through even more money if I got the chance! (Might nip back next week for another go though)
