Lady jdog and I are ensconced in the victoria inn in holkham on the Norfolk coast. She has a special birthday tomorrow and I thought that she deserved a treat. She may not consider spending three days away with an old man much of a treat though.

On my way here I passed Kings Lynn home of one of PW's real experts Motty. There were pigeons everywhere flying like falcons, soaring like swifts, diving like dippers and rising like...er, like rising things. All would have crops full of niger seeds, peanuts and bread from the bird tables of the town. No wonder he shoots 200 every time he goes out.

If only!

I hope you are having an enjoyable time in good ol' Norfolk.

I trust you saw little in the way of pigeon on the Lincolnshire border , because unless I am missing something there are none !

Best wishes to Lady JDog on her birthday tomorrow .

No pigeons until I crossed the border. Lots of pigeons from KL onwards and hundreds on the marsh.

Happy birthday to mrs fenboy for tomorrow.

If the weather improve and you and your good lady need some fresh air and exercise , have a walk down Lady Anns Drive ( across the road from the Victoria hotel ) and walk down to the coastal footpath , then walk right and follow it back to Wells , a lovely walk and if your that way inclined you can have a pint in the Fleece followed by fish and chips sitting around the harbour . If you don't like it I will give you a refund , cant be fairer than that Mr JDog . :good:

You will see plenty of bird life (in all shapes and sizes ) and it is a good place for the feathered variety as well .

Hope u have a really lovely time in my neck of the woods! Pigeon numbers seem to go mad here this time of year. Happy birthday to Mrs jdog. Would be happy to meet up with a fellow pigeon watch member for a pint and a chat but as its a special birthday and your not here for too long you may well be busy. Have a really lovely time and do come again! All the best. Rich1985.

Memories memories. Talk of all those places reminds me of childhood holidays in Norfolk. My nan lived in holt, and we spent lots of time there in school holidays. Days spent on the beach at Sheringham playing cricket against the breakwaters and playing with my boat on the boat lake. Catching crabs off of Blakeney quay and then more cultural pursuits at the stately homes.

I had a week in Yarmouth a couple of years ago with other half and my 5 year old lad and we visited all the places I mentioned earlier, was great to go back and Norfolk remains a special place for me and my memories.

Sorry if this derails the thread a little but nostalgia got the better of me

I always knew Motty lived in some sort of Paradise, judging by his reports.

You must have made your move to East Anglia to the wrong location!

Glad you enjoyed your time in our county , not every ones cup of tea but for peace and solitude it take some beating . and you and your family are welcome back any time you fancy a visit to the area.

Prince William and his family have just moved here , so if its good enough for them , it is good enough for us .

Just take it easy on the beach, you may feel over dressed!
