30-6
Is it worth paying top dollar for genuine stuff or go with compatible ?
Imperfection
My particular experience is the fakes are carp. My HP printer will only accept chipped cartridges and cheap copies with a chip read as 'empty' so wont work.
Cosd
if prining photographics I'd go genuine, otherwise compatibles are fine. I personally go to a local INK shop and find their compatibles are very good. I'd be more dubious buying from an unknown off the net. 30-6
Some are so cheap, compared to original they set alarm bells.
steve_b_wales
I have always bought( for the past 8+ years)compatible ink cartridges from choicestationary.com. Excellent quality and a brilliant customer service. The ink is good quality, and I have never had one fail on me. I have an Epson printer. Hamster
I have bought plenty of re-filled Cannon cartridges from either ebay or Amazon without problems, never even had to reset the printer. They drove me to it themselves charging £30 the cheapies are a quarter of the price.
LiTtLe YeLlOw DaFfOdIl
Personally I have found buying refills or aftermarket cartridges to be a false economy. That's just in my experience.
VicW
For the small amount of printing that I do I stick with genuine cartridges. The one time I tried cheapies they were very poor and had a short life. I use www.printcartridge.net' Vic.
kiffy
between work and home i have used thousands of compats over the years, i do have to bin the odd cartridge that wont work or wont feed ink right but rarely the printer before my current one in the office lasted less than six months.. guarentee was invalid as i used compats but in that six months i saved enough money to buy four printers so all i did was bin the printer, buy another and carry on with compats. in one way a waste buying another printer but even after buying a new oine i still saved a few hundred quid in six months
kiffy
Some are so cheap, compared to original they set alarm bells. some do have less ink than originals but on the whole printers are sold as a loss leader by the manufacturers with them making their money back on inks... or thats the plan, by going over the top on pricing people are all but forced into buying comapibles. steve_b_wales
The compatible cartridges sold by choicestationary.com contain 13ml of ink, which is more that the originals.
Dougy
I once bought a filling kit from the supermarket, got home drilled the empty cartridge filled with ink (black) put back in printer. And hey presto :-0 black ink running out of the bottom of the printer. Luckily had done a DRA on the procedure ;-) I placed an old towel and magazine underneath. I binned the printer. Just be aware folk's and watch out for leaks lol
Savhmr
The only compatibles worth a damn which I've used for my 6 cart Epson printer were supplied by Incol (ebay seller) at about a pound a cartridge! They're very good for everything other than photos where they fade. If printing photos, I always use OEM. For general use, I can highly recommend the Incol cartridges. Bluebarrels
Like anything you have to shop around I bought a black and colour multipack for a Canon printer yesterday, £21.99 from Wilkinsons £34.99 from Ryman (for the same carts) bb Edited July 21, 2015 by Bluebarrels
BrowningB525
What make and model is your printer? Some respond to compatible cartridges better than others.
30-6
It's an Epson SX445W. DrBob
I have used originals for years, but a while ago I switched to Premier Ink, based in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire. Friendly, helpful staff, loads of special bundle deals, excellent quality. Cannot tell any difference whatsoever, just a lot cheaper. www.premier-ink.co.uk Usual disclaimers, just a happy customer Edited July 21, 2015 by DrBob

And that about sums it up. When non genuine carts are a 10th of the price and work just as well ( and sometimes have more ink ) its a no brainer. YEARS ago ,they could be a bit dodgy, but nowadays the quality is spot on,chips are present, all good.
Hamster
I just can't see how anyone would bother selling poor quality refills on ebay or Amazon when its so easy to get refunds nowadays, as mentioned earlier I've had no problems and must say hadn't noticed them running out any sooner.
