Dekers
Help me out please, I have just got a ticket for 35 in a 30 zone with a suggestion I may be eligible for a speed awareness course, for which there is a charge. Anyone got any idea how much the course costs, there is no mention of it on my paperwork. Cheers
Savhmr
The costs apparently vary between £60 and £100 depending on the course provider. A friend of mine was in a similar position a while back and he paid closer to £60 I think.
wraivi
About £90 iirc. Certainly was not more, ....Worth doing, as it avoids a conviction, 3 points and fine plus the inevitable hike in your insurance premium if you get the 3 points. I go done last year, same offence as you, I seem to remember the fine is about the same as the course.
fenboy
I have not long done one , it was £

Down here in the sunny SWest the course is £85. I am going to book mine soon. Saving of £15 is not much but still a saving and you dont need to take the points. Carman06
Yep I got done due to faulty speedo in works vehicle i picked up that day. Was £90. Some insurance company's are asking if you have been on one of these too now.
HardFocus
£90.00 but if caught again within 3 years of the offence their is no option of the course. You have to take the fine and the points.

walshie
Did one in Surrey just before Xmas. It was £97, which is £3 less than the fixed penalty would have been, but no points. BTW prepare yourself for the most mind-numbing few hours of your life.

Mungler
Very good Seriously though, I nearly bought a dash cam (to combat vandals, cash for crash drivers and foreign ladies not paying attention in the outside lane whilst doing 42 mph) but then I was worried about the speed and other telemetry data that might be available in the event of a tug from plod. Now that wouldn't be too clever.
longspoon
Just so you are aware, some of the money raised from speed awareness courses goes towards funding more cameras.......you may also need to tell your insurance company come renewal time. walshie
You absolutely do NOT have to tell your insurance company and if they ask, use another. There are apparently only 2 major companies that ask at the moment. The question is "have you ever been convicted?" and the honest answer is no. ghosthunter
Holy hell when did it go up to £100.... Last one I got was £60 in 2011 BTW I did the course and by heck its boring with do gooders talking down to you as if you were primary school kids... I found it a bit pathetic tbh but it did save me getting 3 points...
Savhmr
Problem with taking the points is that a speeding conviction has to be declared to your FEO/licencing team as they may take the view that it's an indicator of "responsibility" or lack of it if too many speeding points are racked up, and this could potentially affect FAC renewal. I'd take the course, pay the money and eat humble pie, expecting to be patronised (indeed disappointing if I wasn't if ever on one of these courses!). Now that wouldn't be too clever. Get the ones I have. £20.00 off ebay, just takes a mini SD card. No speed or other data, just date and film if they crash that's all you need, stops YOU getting in the ****, and maybe get you out of some **** I have one fitted front AND rear (after a woman reversed across the road onto my side of the road into me, then she drive back across the road, parked and claimed I had reversed into her. Took a court case before she finally admitted it)
