Guttys(catapult)...anyone still use one?

I don't think they are all that easy to buy these days. Way back, my mate had one that could literally have killed somebody if it hit them. He used .36 lead balls which I cast for him and he used it for 'poaching' the pheasants that wandered off a nearby syndicate.

They certainly were lethal, wouldn't mind one myself

Can get them anywhere, certain auction site notwithstanding, diablo is revamped and showing age as new one is carp compared to original.

I use a stainless steel dankung catty with 3 sets of latex tubes, 40cal lead and generate about 15ftlbs. Avoid cast, aluminium and plastic moulded catty's.

if you are interested, slingshot forum is place to get info.

On youtube... Joerg Sprave is the guy to follow...... especially his earlier stuff

Coincidentally I just about to buy a catapult.

What I need is something that is small enough to fit in pocket.

It would be for close range squirrel bashing.

Any recommendations from the massive?

I have too, but not for quarry and just for fun. I've seen the small wooden or metal Gamekeeper type which seem pretty good but I've decided to cut my own this year and use flat bands, which will save me £30.

Barnet Black Widow.

Just looked at that, I assume the wrist support thing come off but even then the forks protrude back so it won't flatten down much.

I am think trouser pocket more than coat pocket, I have seen the plastic handled one on ebay not sure if they are any good?

It’s almost like a lost art. When I was a kid everyone that wanted one used to cut a fork branch( Strod) and cut it down to a Y shaped catty. The bark was peeled off and the wood air dried. The tops were made into holes by burning through with a red-hot meat skewer and which the catty lastic was tied through. We used to buy catty lastic by the yard from the local bike shop. There were two sizes available >> 1/4 and 5/16ths and each size had it’s ardent followers. Somewhere I've got a couple of those Milbro jobbies and I hated them with that thumb mark in the frame. Some people of the golden earring brigade were really accurate with them and used to head shoot sitting rabbits and hares right between the ears. Some liked the strod to be very narrow and others liked em wide. Somewhere I have a catty that I made for one of the girls about 35 years ago so you can see that they lasted a long time, stones like pea beach were a bit of a favourite. My brother in law was so good with one that he used to put two Swan vesta red matches up out of the side of the sliding bit of the box and put another across between like a goal post and shoot the one out in the middle which caught fire with the friction.

I have a pocket poacher from Gamekeeper John, proper little jobby, fits in a jacket pocket no trouble and when firing 10mm lead balls its a lethal bit of kit.

On the subject of the old Milbro cattys are they not changing hands for serious money now? I had one as kid, no idea where it is now but I never used it mainly because I wasnt strong enough to get the elastic to even move, I remember my dad saying to me "you bought a dead dog there boy" his way of saying that he thought it was shile of pite.
