pigeon controller
You may have remembered from my post on Saturday that we were given permission to shoot some rape fields within the game shoot . So today was the day, we set out to the farm with the rain pelting down on the disco windscreen and not a bird flighting out of the city during our journey. We arrived at the farm and after a few instructions we left with the KEY. As we approached the park entrance we unlocked the gate and proceded into the fields of rape. We drove past two fields and had not seen a bird at the third the field errupted, with about three to four hundred birds feeding hard together. I was told many years ago that pigeons can go three days without feeding on the fourth they must feed despite the weather. Now it had been raining for the past three days so today was the day. We watched the fields for twenty minutes and could not see a flightline or pattern to the returning feeding birds. After a further ten minutes a weak flightline was developing down the one edge of the field sheltered from the strong wind and rain by a conifer line of trees, so we set up on that edge. It was now 10.45 and set up with ten thawed birds on cradles above the rape and two on the magnet which we placed at the far end of our pattern into the wind so the approaching birds would have to pass over the static birds before they came across the magnet. The rain was constant but when it did stop for five or ten minutes the birds would flood into the field and the decoys but they were flocked up and came in waves of ten to fifteen at a time which is frantic shooting. We shot till 15.15 and with the rain it was almost dark so the picture is in the dark and we picked up one hundred and fiftyfour pigeons , so it was a Magical Monday. SNS
Sounds more like Manic Monday to me, at least in those 10, 15 mins bursts. True dedication once again though - the rain looked appalling from my office window looking South of Brum - very well done Sir !

pigeon controller
Class again. How do you get your soggy wet birds to look like sunny day stubble birds! Pick them up ,give them a good shake to remove the rain and lay them out , the strong wind started to dry them off .
