darren 67
Do they work as well as they say? And how long do they last? Any good/bad reports. Thanks.
Stonepark
Inexpensive ones (£5 inc postage) off evilbay do fine, good for a quick clean (95% of the time) but still need rods and brushes for serious fouling. I carry one when shooting for post shoot quick clean and also good if you get mud in barrel.
Livefast123
I have 3 (12b, .223 and.44) and am more than happy with the cleaning for the use that my guns get, the oldest is a 12b one and that is around 4 years old with no signs of wear. If they get dirty, find the Mrs old sock and put in the washing machine. I still do a deep clean with a rod if i think they need it but tbh it's probably just me thinking it's been a while. darren 67
Thanks for the replies do you use cleaner and then oil and wool mop after? On and I've read what they use socks for on this forum lol. Edited December 8, 2015 by darren
motty
Bore snakes are very poor for anything other than cleaning a bit of powder residue.

Livefast123
Depends, you can either put the cleaner on the front of the snake and oil on the back for a quick job but I usually put the cleaner down on a patch then run the snake a few times. Scully
I have two, and like them very much. I spray solution down the bores and leave to soak for a while, then run the snakes through.
B391
quick clean only for me when i don't have time for a proper clean
browning123
I got rid of all my Hoppe's bore snakes, and purchased Gun Mouse Bore Cleaners from the USA. They are an excellent product, hard wearing, easy to wash and will last for years. They fit and clean the bore perfectly - even the .17 Hmr which sometimes the Boresnake won't even fit the barrel. darren 67
Thanks all looks like a good thing for when finished shooting but a good clean every now and then.
clanchief
Used one about 40 times on a Beretta, I was impressed with the clean until the rope broke at the end of a pull. Ended up with a snake like tampon stuck in the bore, had to get some extra long needle nose pliers to catch the end bit to pull it out. My advice it to go an buy one and suggest to everyone down the Oak they are the best thing since doing things the right way with a rod. Trevorevans
Find mine ok after the barrels have had a good soak in Napier and I've been shooting plastic wads. If I've been using felt/fibre wad then I still need to use a bronze brush as the snake doesn't remove the fouling on the forcing cones, however that could be down to my cartridges. And yes the cord WILL snap. When it does buy some para cord and tie a slip knot under the fluffy bit, job done. So yes I find them useful but not a one stop shop by any means. MartynGT4
I had one snap on me too, I had a hell of a time getting the bloody thing out
ShootingEgg
I find mine works well. Use it aswell as the rod, used rod to get the heavy stuff off then run snake down to drag excess out.. Then a full length mop to shine... Monkey Nuts
Good for removing heavy residue in between deep cleans with the rod. It's certainly no replacement. I run mine through the barrel dry without oil though.
dougall
they are fine for quick pull through...overtime they get less and less effective as get filthy and will break at some point.Nice & quick though, but when have time best to go old fashioned and use rods etc for thorough job... Scully
I shove mine in the washer to clean them.👍
darren 67
Was only thinking of a quick clean. Would do a strip and good clean every 3/4 shoots unless got soaking wet, then would be a full clean with out a doubt. Thanks all.
clayboster
i bought a 8g one from china, its a real nice tight fit when its pulled through my 12g brownie, and it cleans pretty good, but like waxing a car , it still needs that extra bit of elbow to make it gleam.
